Review content:
My daughter's class (whitebelt/starters) has about a dozen kids in it. The instructor is AMAZING with them and it's easy to see that he loves his job, and that the kids love him. The 45 minute class consists of warm-up exercises, then practicing blocks, kicks, punches, form, and then as time allows - sparring, or learning self-defense moves.\r
\r
This school teaches not only physical moves, but also mental and emotional ""moves"" like being confident, encouraging and supporting your friends, being respectful to your parents, etc.\r
\r
We could not be happier with our experience here so far. My daughter told me recently, ""Karate is my most favorite thing in the world - I'm going to do it forever!""\r
\r
They have a 3 year program for earning a blackbelt. Not sure my 7 year old will stick with it that long, but for now it's her goal in life! :) The school does require a 3 year contract, but similar to a 24-Hour Fitness type of contract, you can get out of it with 2 months written notice. Seemed fair enough to us. It is $119/month for the first child, but there is a significant discount for the second/third child.\r
\r
While that monthly cost is higher than what we've paid for some other sports, it IS a ""come all you want"" environment; where, for example, we paid $70/month for gymnastics that was ONLY the one evening a week. (My daughter goes on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and then to the Saturday morning class if we don't have special weekend plans.)\r
\r
The school is clean and well ventilated. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of comfortable seating for parents to stay and observe. The garden outside is beautiful and relaxing, and they welcome you to enjoy it. It also has a playground if you're there for an hour with a younger sibling who's restless.\r
\r
We are beyond satisfied with our experience at Hwarang TKD.
