If I could give this business a negative 1000 I would. My sister and I are in the process of remodeling our elderly parent's home. We are already under so much stress as it is. It is ridiculous. Both parents are in nursing homes and we are desperarately trying to make sure that we not only create a safe living environment but also a beautiful one for them to return to. There are several extensive modifications that need to be done. They have always resisted our efforts, but their failing health has forced us to step in. Hey my dad is 94 and my mom 82 - if not now then when - it could be never. After a lot of research we picked out several contractors to call for an estimate. We researched NARI, NAHB and the CA contractor's state board for good references. One of the contractors selected to call was Masterworks. We were especially happy to see that they had several certifications including CAPS which indicated that they were certified in universal design and experienced in remodeling needs of the elderly. So we made a call indicating that we would like to set up an appointment for an estimate. Oh by the way we live in Compton. The owner, Bill Leisy, calls my sister back and before she could say a word he launches into this long speech about how they never come to our area and we probably cannot afford him and people in Compton normally expect a low ball rate and they do not work for cheap and he could refer us to someone else. They have high overhead with a lot of employees and they are a professional business, they would not be the cheapest estimate. They have never come out to do any work in our area but he expects that people in our area do not want to spend a lot of money blah, blah, blah, and on and on and on. My sister was horrified and put him on speakerphone but I was so upset I did not want to hear it and asked her to turn it off - literally. He never gave her a chance to explain what our budget was or to even speak actually. It was amazing and unsettling. I could hear him going on and on even with the speakerphone off. My thought is my sister is an attorney and has worked at prestigious law firms for several years. She is also an apartment building owner. I am an accountant, a manager, and I do ok. We are a professional family and we both graduated from UCLA and are constantly trying to work hard and better ourselves. And we are now in the position to help our family. My parents own their home outright and between all of us we have resources. The family has been here 50+ years and we like it see no reason to move although we can afford it. In this day and age it is depressing that I even feel that I have to justify. I can understand if a business does not service a certain area - they normally state that on their website or their ads- and we have simply avoided calling those. No questions asked - no assumptions about why not. We were really puzzled about why he would call and insult us for 5 minutes instead of simply stating that we were out of his service area and end the phone call. And he is the professional one. We thought so highly of his business to inquire about his services, but he thought so low of us that he immediately started insulting us when he called us back - and literally would not stop all because of where my parents live. Shaking my head. Today - So sad.
