Review content:
The Green Kitchen is a place that impressed me in the late 80's, so I went there a lot. Growing tired of it, I wanted to try other places. So I did. And yet, whether the other restaurants were better (or worse), I still kept returning now and then to the Green Kitchen. It is almost 20 years later, and I still eat there from time to time. Hey, why change? The food is good, the prices are right, and I get good service.
The Green Kitchen in located in the Galaxy Towers on Boulevard East in Guttenberg. It serves a wide variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cuisine ranges from Italian to Greek to American (Continental cuisine in a nutshell!) It is open 7 days a week. Diners there can sit at the counter or in the smoking or non-smoking sections of the restaurant, or even at the tables located in the bar area. Yes, there is a bar..and it's popular. Prices are moderate and portion size is very good. I hate to pay for something that is about the size of two bites!
For breakfast, I recommend their pancakes, which are to die for. But the omelettes are good too..there is a Popeye Omelette for spinach lovers. Breakfast is vast in variety, so enjoy. Try their fresh squeezed orange juice..probably one of the best I have tasted. On Sundays, the restaurant offers a brunch menu. There are lunch and dinner specials everyday. For lunch, if I don't have a sandwich, I have sliced London Broil. I love their soups..I go crazy over their Cream of Mushroom soup. Their French Onion soup is quite good. Try their Caesar Salad with grilled chicken..quite tasty. My mother-in-law swears by their Gyros and Reubens, while my child loves the Chicken Soup, which will either have noodles, orzo pasta,or rice (I guess it depends what the chef has in surplus that day!)
For dinner, you can go early bird, from 4 to 6pm. Early Bird gives you soup or fruit cup, salad, bread (actually bread, crackers, and breadsticks), your entree, and dessert. Most of the dinners I have had are good. I am not too keen on the meatballs served with their Baked Ziti. I like their Chicken Francaise, but I have had better. Their Salmon dish with rice and vegetables is good, and plenty. I usually go for a pasta dish, a chicken dish, or Pot Roast when available. If you see the Chicken Scampi or Picatta, you must try it. For pasta, the Pomodoro with sundried tomatoes is tantalizing.
For dessert, there is one thing you must eat..their cheesecake, for which they are famous for. Even people like myself, who do not eat cheesecake that much, fell for it hard. If you cringe at a "cheesy'-tasting" cheesecake, fear not when you try Green Kitchen's version. It is so creamy and delicious.
The restaurant also has a small room for banquet/catering purposes. The room can fit to about 50 people. The catering menu is good...a sit down dinner consists of bread with the meal, pasta salad, choice of entree (chicken, steak, and salmon usually), beverage, and dessert. And when I catered a function there, our guests were welcomed to a table of 4 desserts. There is also a brunch catering menu as well.
Parking is interesting. If you get a spot out front on the Boulevard, great. There are a few spots in the back between the Galaxy Towers. Most likely, you might have to park on the streets around the area, or in the Galaxy Tower Parking garage. if you are not from the area, though, you better call up or ask someone how to get to the parking garage. Should you want to explore before your dinner, the Galaxy has plenty. There is a grocery store and a pizza/restaurant and wine place right across the hall, and a pharmacy card store, movie theater, video store, small ice cream shop, and an optometrist/optician downstairs.
All in all, I think most will enjoy the Green Kitchen. It's always busy, open early, and has lots to offer. No wonder why I keep coming back.
