One of the places I visited while in Lawton Ok was recommended by my daughter and son-in-law as a place I had to go to eat. Leo and Ken's Truck Stop Restaurant at 103 East Lee Blvd is obviously a favorite of the locals. When you walk in you have the sense of being back in the 60s, and we were told that they had started the business in 1961. Little has changed except for fresh paint on the walls now and then. The booths still have phones and instructions on how to pay for calls. The worn Formica topped tables have seen many meals. And what meals! There is a daily lunch special and we were late getting there as it was almost 2 ,so they had sold out. It was pork chops on that day. You can regularly get a pork chop meal for 5.95 and that would include a salad, choice of potato and a roll. I ordered a 1/4 lb burger and fries. I believe the total came to 3.40. The menu showed sides that we don't usually see like red top stew, cucumbers and onions, beet pickles , hominy, and spinach. A 24 oz. sirloin meal was only 12.75. As I ate I looked around at some of the memorabilia of the Oklahoma culture, like horse collars, and much of it had been hanging there for a long time. While the atmosphere was that of the 60s, the service was friendly and efficient. It was a clean restaurant including restrooms which had old fixtures that needed a little work. Being a truck stop in it's early days, there is adequate parking but at the height of the lunch hour I bet you have to wait for a seat. more
