I recently had an out of town guest and was looking for some inexpensive entertainment around Denver. Then I remembered the Coors Brewery Tour which I had taken in the past and thought that might be fun. It worked out perfectly, Golden is only a short drive out of Denver, about 15-20 minutes. When you get to Golden you can already smell the hops in the air from the brewing. Just follow the signs (sometimes small) to the Brewery. There is plenty of parking, and right away you get on a nice little shuttle bus. This gives a brief tour of the Golden downtown area and some background on Adolph Coors.
After arriving at the brewery we waited about 10 minutes for our tour to begin. I was surprised how many people were there on a weekday as well, probably about 20 in our group. The whole tour lasts about 30 minutes or so and lets you walk right through the entire place. The guided walkthrough is an overview of the entire beer making process, with a stop towards the beginning to have a small (dixie cup) sample of the freshest beer. Very good. Then at the end those who are over 21 get three free glasses of the Coors beverage selection including Molson, Zima, Blue Moon, and of course Coors.
It was a fun way to spend the afternoon and after the tour we had lunch in town which was also very good. So if you are looking for some great free entertainment, head out to Golden for the Coors tour!
