Okay but nothing great 8/20/2005

We are fairly new to the area, so we don't always know the best (& safest) places to eat. After a few bouts of food poisoning, we like to go to recommended places. This one has won awards from a local magazine, so I chose it from the phonebook. I believe it was "Best Asian Cuisine" many years in a row, or something like that. The food turned out decent, we ate there for dinner one time, but would not go back. My husband did not like his food, and neither did I. It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't the best. For the price, it wasn't worth it. I was surprised, because the magazine usually is trustworthy, and comes from votes of area residents. Maybe our opinion just differs from the rest of the city! I also felt like they were a little rude to me. That seems to be just the way things are these days. I actually hadn't ever had "szechuan" sauce before (or didn't pay attention to it when I did.) There was a hot pepper by the entree I chose, indicating that it was spicy. I asked how hot it was, and she said, "Not too bad." I said, "Well, I just tried Thai sauce the other day - thinking it wasn't too bad, and it was so hot I couldn't eat it. It's not that hot, is it?" She was offended that I mentioned Thailand in a Chinese restaurant I guess, because all she said was, "I don't know, we don't have that here," in a kind of offended way. My husband laughed at me once we were outside, but I don't see where I was being rude! I just wanted a comparison of Thai and Szechuan sauce!!! more
