One of the few truly authentic, traditional, family-run New York Italian restaurants left; i.e. 1/29/2009

As NYC restaurants so easily come and go, Villa Mosconi has done an amazing job of staying current while remaining true to the simple but proven formula of good food (ask them about Nonna's favorite pasta), fine wine and attentive and genuine service.\r \r I've been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and am proud to say that somewhere along the line, I feel as if I became one of the family. As my former guests and I can attest, the food is always spot-on, whether it's off the menu or one of the dishes off the vast ""daily specials"" menu. The wine list is very comprehensive, but will not break your back if you're on a budget. And the service? What can you say when the Wait-staff still wear black ties and are all either part of the family or have been with the restaurant since the beginning. These gentlemen have been formally trained as waiters and know the forgotten art of service. The only drawback is the next time you go to another restaurant you'll probably realize just how bad or inexperienced the service in NYC really is. \r \r If you want to try a restaurant that's Old School but can teach the Nuevo Italian restaurants something, I highly recommend Villa Mosconi. Pros: Homemade pasta dishes and specials (the Ossobuco is one of the best in NYC) and great service. more
