I grew up two miles from the ""Big Ballpark"", as Red Barber called it. The neighborhood was ugly, bit subway access was excellent, and the Sabrett's doggies were the best. To get a senses of the Stadium's history one can simply listen to the PA voice of Bob Sheppard, who has been there since I was ten years old. Better yet, recall Roger Clemens going to Monument Park to salute the Babe and Lou before his home field starts. Best of all, I was there as a CYO freebie fan the day the Mick banged a collosal rocket off the old upper deck facade, the closest thing to a fair ball ever launched out of the original park.
