I have mixed feelings about this place. Controversies about the philosophies of this place can be easily found on-line. The kaiseki dinner @ $30 per person on Wednesdays gets a definite ""yes"" from me. However, I am torn about this not using vinegar in sushi rice business. I was wondering what makes the sushi from this place so bland, and now I know why. Other than that quirky tidbit, the food is experimental and fun. If you like hot sauce, you'd definitely be intrigued by their spread. Bun Lai has the personality to make this New Haven classic running. His mother is also a definite plus. She chats with customers (who she treats like family), giving them tips on gardening, etc. Great place to hang out if you're a grad student in the area. May be a bit too informal for some. Try it and find out!
