Food was good, beds are comfortable. Some basic toiletries are allowed.
Not HIPAA compliant in the least. Multiple patient charts, labeled clearly with First name Last initial, are laid open on the desk in the center of the unit. Any patient can walk up and glance down over the counter to read another patient's charts. Nurses and support staff sit or stand around the front desk area gossiping about current patients. Current patients sitting all day at the desk listening to staff discussing other petients and joining in on the gossip. Patients sitting on the phone at the nurses station while nurses gossip about current patients within earshot.
Patients first names and last name initials are written on a white board in full view of entire unit. At times Nurses or Staff call you by your full name to verify. Daily a Nurse will call to another unit and read out loud the first and last names of all the patients who is currently on the unit. This is done at the open front desk in ear shot of any patient who happens to stand or sit by the desk.
Any patient can find out the full name, social security number, birth date, and possibly address of other patients very easily by hanging around near the desk on Unit. Some Nurses are more open to gossip about patients than others. When you get medications the Nurse asks you to say aloud your full name and birth date every single time.
Do not expect any privacy when discharging. Staff will ask you your discharge location and say aloud your address within earshot of whichever patients happen to be nearby you. The doors do not provide much privacy either if you expect to have a private phone call or meeting with a counselor.
