Most people know San Diego Junior Theatre as a high quality youth theatre. What many don't know is how affordable it is. Being in a class AND a show costs less than what most youth theatres charge to just be in a show... substantially less in several cases. They don't double cast and they don't "over-cast" (cast kids that won't get much stage time but pay just as much as the others.)
Another thing I love about San Diego Junior Theatre is it's commitment to a full theatre education. As far as I know, they are the only company that requires students involved in shows to also crew and learn the backstage elements. This keeps diva attitudes at bay and theatre education up. While they do graduate many, many kids who go on to work professionally in theatre, the goal is theatre education, not stardom.
