Well, if you are looking for good, flavorful, southern-style food this is NOT your place. The pot roast is tough and stringy, gravy tastes straight from a can, bland chicken and dumplings. The squash is bitter tasting, and the cabbage has no seasoning. They couldn't even get my son's grilled cheese right.....cheese not melted at all. I would go somewhere else, because this is not grandma's food! Pros: nice server, quiet Cons: low budget food more

Just Like My Great-Grandmom Used To Make 2/11/2003

It is obvious that the ""official"" reviewer didn't grow up in a home with good Southern cooking, or Vittles would have seemed like heaven. I'd go there again just for the chess pie (which was, frankly, better than my great grandmom's). Fried chicken is meant to be greasy, pot roast should be almost disintigrated, and good Southern-style veggies are always mushy. This resteraunt should be near Swett's, not in stuffy Brentwood. Trying to be like Cracker Barrel, but not cutting the mustard. Too pricey and veggies too caloric. Pros: nice setting Cons: no kids crayons, etc., difficult parking, to pricy 4 what u get more

Try the Chicken & Dumplings! 9/13/2002

Vittles serves scrumptious Chicken & Dumplings on Thursdays. Unlike other restaurants, they don't take the easy way out and serve 'biscuit' style dumplings. No, they actually serve authentic brothy Chicken & Dumplings with rolled dumplings! These are as good as my own homemade, and much easier! The service was prompt and attentive, and the menu a delight. I will be going back often! They offer country fried steak, country fried porkchops, country fried chicken (do you sense a theme here?) and many other southern delights... Southern Hospitality at it's Best 7/24/2002

Watch out Cracker Barrel! Vittale's has a leg up on the competition with it's authentic southern food, from the homestyle greenbeans to the phenomenal pot roast to the banana pudding.
