Toby's Shoe Repair

I'm a bit ticked that I can't give this shop 0 stars or even a negative rating b/c this was literally my worst experience as a customer ever. First, I showed up to the store when it was supposed to be open, but I had to stand around and wait for the old guy who I think owns the place to show up. Who the hell is late to their own business? Then instead of attending to me immediately he took his time getting ready before he decided it was time to actually serve his customer. All I needed was a shoelace to replace a broken one, but the old guy couldn't even get that right. Instead he gave me one that was the wrong length. I told him what happened, but he decided to start talking to another customer instead of finishing with his first customer. So, I went over and grabbed the wrong color shoelaces off the wall b/c it was too dark in poorly lit, dirty little store. When he realized I opened the wrong box the old man became upset and started berating me for several minutes while he tried to find the right shoelaces - which were covered by other shoelaces which were in the wrong place. He continued whining about me opening the wrong box of shoelaces even after I put both boxes on the counter to indicate I'd take responsibility and pay for them. Rude, arrogant, ignorant, overpriced...let's see anything else? Yeah, plenty, but I think you get the idea. more

When dropping off a pair of boots that needed a zipper repair, I was told by an elderly gentleman that it would cost me $35 and take one week. Ten days later I had yet to hear anything from the shop, so I called to check on the status of my boots. A surly younger man told me they had only been sent out that very day. At that point, he told me the repairs would take another two weeks, and cost $45. Unfortunately, I was leaving for an extended stay abroad the next day. I asked if I could just get the boots back, unrepaired, but the man said no. He then told me that my travel plans were not his problem, and that I should have known how long the repairs would take. When I pointed out that I would not have left my boots at the shop if I had known it would take over three weeks to repair them, he hung up on me. I still do not have my boots back (they were expensive, by the way), and I was shocked by how rude the man was. While the older gentleman was very nice, I would not recommend anyone go to this shop. Apparently you never know when/if you'll get your shoes back. Cons: Lied about repair time and price. Extremely rude. more
