Fun Toy & Hobby Store 9/7/2008

The Whiz carries lots of toys for kids of all ages. It's a fun store to browse for birthday gifts because there is such a variety (and plenty of funny gag gifts). On the other hand, it is harder to find what you're looking for if you're too picky. We went looking for toy trains, and found a nice selection, but not exactly what we wanted. We were impressed at how many "educational" type toys there were from children...like pretend food and science kits. \r Their prices might seem high, but compared to other similar type gift stores, they are reasonable. There are plenty of items in all price ranges. \r In addition to gifts, the store also has a collection of gaming books, supplies and miniatures. The back of the store boasts two rooms devoted to gaming. When we visited on the weekend, there was a tournament going on and lots of excited teens. \r The staff is very friendly & knowledgeable and lets you browse without intruding. Plenty of parking in the lot in front of the building complex. more

Look here for the unusual 7/10/2005

The Whiz has plenty of parking in a shared lot just off of Rte 9. Although it is a small shop, it caries many items that are not availalbe elsewhere. It is a great place to go if you are buying for the "hard to buy for" as something will always grab your attention. The prices are on the high side. The staff is attentive without being pushy making for a great shopping experience. Even though it is a great place to browse, you will rarely leave empty handed. PROS: Great selection CONS: more

    Chris and Lynne are long time residents of central Massachusetts who shopped and played at The Whiz for many years. They have two sons, Jon and James, who have inherited their parent's love of games and toys. In fact, if not for Jon, the Walshes might not have purchased the store. Jon was playing at the regular Friday night Magic: The Gathering tournament (check out our event schedule), when he heard that the previous owners of The Whiz were retiring and closing the store. Chris talked to the owners about buying the business, and the rest is history!
