The Enormous Room

This place does some things right, and lots of things wrong. It's a dubby loungy dj bar, complete with a few posh leather chairs and glass coffee tables; I guess they expect an air of sophistication that the area of central square is not known for. Most of the rest of the seating is just wooden stairs covered with Persian rugs and tapestries and garnished with some throw pillows in an effort to give the false impression of being comfortable. The drinks are steep, and the clientèle sucks...21-30 year olds who wear casino button downs and too much cologne. Sometimes they do have good music though - Christian Poirier makes it a habit to spin there...I'm not quite sure why. more

The Enormous Room is located above Central Kitchen in Central Square. It has no sign, but the red door next to Central Kitchen with the elephant on it will take you where you need to go. The interior is relaxed and loungey, with lots of low couches and little pillows. There is a vague Middle Eastern theme on the menu and in the decor, the drinks are very good, and there is always DJing. A relaxing place to hang out, although on weekend nights it gets really loud. It turns out the room isn't so enormous, so stake out your turf early or be prepared to stand. more

The thing I liked about this place is that it's a very casual atmosphere. There was a TV playing Soul Train music and there was enough room for a few friends and I to dance. The couches were very comfortable to sit on and the drinks were unique and tastey. The room isn't really that big but it was big enough. It really is just a nice room with couches and comfortable chairs. It really is a good place for someone to hang out and relax after a long day at work. It can also be a place where you can enjoy a good time with friends as I found to be true. The food selection is not enormous, there are about 10 items on the menu but we didn't get to try any of them out after the central kitchen closed. However, the drinks that we ordered were quite good. more
