Very Expensive for Average Taysting Food 1/3/2006

Tayst is another average restaurant. I went on NYE and paid over $200 w/out tip for 2 people. Good service from wait staff and good presentation; just average cuisine like every other restaurant I have tried in Nashville. Nothing in the 5 courses was outstanding except the Gingerbread dessert. They do have a great wine list. The standout was the White Bean Hummus with bread. I don't think I would go back unless someone else was paying. Pros: Wine List, Service, White Bean Hummus Cons: Expensive, Rude Bar Tender more

You will not be disappointed! 10/5/2005

My husband and I went to Tayst for the second time last night and walked out more than satisfied. Our first visit to Tayst was over a year ago and wasn't so memorable, but we decided to give it another try and were so glad we did! The food was fantastic. Our service was great as well. The owner even came up and chatted with us for a bit, very personable. I highly recommend trying Tayst or even revisiting if you have been before. You will not be disappointed!!! Pros: Food, Service, Wine Cons: Can't think of any more

Great Value and experience 6/22/2005

Went with my wife for our anniversary and had a great experience. The food and wine selections were terrific. When it came down to desert, besides the Creme Brule(sp?), we wanted a scoop of their homemade ice cream, but couldn't decide which flavor, so left the decision to our (very attentive)server and he chose a perfect complement to the creme (blackberry). As for the reviews about portion sizes, not only were the portions more than adequate for the very reasonable prices, but there was also easily enough food to feel full, but not over-stuffed. We enjoyed desert and left very satisfied. We do not have the means to experience fine dining as much as we would like, but for anyone who has an occasion to celebrate or just decides it is time again, I highly recomend Tayst. I wish we could go more often, but we will certainly be back. Pros: service, taste, affordable more

unique experience 6/15/2005

Tayst has very good food! Everything I put into my mouth was wonderful. But like the other reviews you just don't get a lot for the price. I went with a group (and our dinner was paid for)...so I tried the mussels for an appetizer (very good!), the chicken pasta for entree (again very good, but just a few bites of it), and creme brulee for dessert (awesome!). The presentations were wonderful, and the food was very very good. All in all, I would possibly go back. But just for a special occasion. It's perfect for a unique experience or a date or anniversary. Pros: taste, wine, ambiance Cons: price, amount of food more

Fantastic 4/24/2005

We stopped here on our way to TPAC. We only had 45 minutes to sit, order, and eat. We told the server we were in a rush and she stepped on it. The food was fantastic! I had a Pork Tamala(not like you get in a mexican restaurant). It was so delicious I savored every bite. My boyfriend had Veal and said it was the best Veal he's had. We end with a Ancho Chile Cheese Cake. So in total we had 3 glasses of wine, appetizer, salads, entrees and dessert for $90. Very fair price for the quality of food we enjoyed. We will go again when we have more time. more

Best Tayst in Town!! 4/15/2005

Our first Tayst began on a Friday night about a year ago, and because of the great food, service, environment, and especially the staff, we frequent Tayst every Friday! The smoke free environment is a unique scene for a bar, and the menu changes every quarter. Jeremy, the chef, has created many different taysts for the pallate and steve the bartender enhances that tayst with variety of exceptional wines that are hand picked by him...an excellent somalier inmy mind!!! Thanks guys! more

The Whole Package 3/17/2005

I'd heard many good things about tayst, and wasn't disappointed when i finally dined there. the server was very helpful and we decided to do flights of wine so that we could try several new things. Appetizers were great: we had a special lamb appetizer and the tempura hearts of plam, both great. we shared a salad (which they actually split for us in the kitchen!), then had the freeform ravioli (amazing!) and the caramel apple lamb shank (very nice presentation and combination of flavors!). Though we didn't have room for desert, they sounded intriguing: the chef is not afraid to have fun with food, which is a plus. overall, a great experience, and we'll be back soon! Pros: food, value, service more

Went for Valentine's Day dinner and wanted to try a new place. Arrived at the time of our reservation and was promptly seated with no waiting. Service was good and the atmosphere classy. I was very disappointed with the size of the small portions as it seems all you get is a ""taste"" of the food at premium prices. I enjoyed my salad and entree, but filled up on bread, skipping dessert as I knew the price would be high for the bite-sized portion. Needless to say, I left the restaurant disappointed and hungry, stopping at a fast food drive-through on the way home. Pros: service, decor Cons: food portions, value for the food more

A Nashville Top Ten 2/9/2005

Somewhere between Zola and F. Scott's lies geographically as well dining experience the Tayst Restaurant. The presentation and quality of each ""tayst"" (soup, appetizer, entree & dessert) were all excellent (although the creme brulee was very good, it was not the best we had ever eaten - as the owner was prepared to wager). The wait staff was friendly, not overly attentive and well versed in the wines available on their list (including several rather arcane wines). Compared to any ""fine"" dining experience in Nashville (a difficult search, trust me), the pricing (and portions) is very reasonable and certainly competitive. Pros: excellent food, superior service, gregarious owner Cons: small wine list, mediocre ambiance, crowded more

Wonderful Surprise 1/20/2005

I've just left Tayst an hour ago and I'm still sizzled about the atmosphere, food, service and overall pleased feeling I have for the restaurant. The service was excellent. You think that since your food is prepared as ordered, one may become inpatient while waiting, but the service and atmosphere made up for it. If our server could not pick up a plate, another server would jump right in and made the service feel flawless. The food was just wonderful. Some of the most wonderful food I've ever had. I would definately recommend a visit to Tayst. Pros: atmosphere, service, food more

Great food and atmosphere. 12/14/2004

Went in without a reservation and got a great table. The servers were very helpful and polite. The food was excellent. Very unique. Nice, elegant atmosphere. A great addition to the Nashville restaurant scene. more

I've had better 12/6/2004

There are a lot of good and unique restaurants in Nashville. Tayst is not one of them. Don't get me wrong ... it wasn't the worst meal I have ever had. The flavors of the food blended well together and the menu was pretty broad, BUT food portions are TINY, the atmosphere is dull thoughtless and the prices are on the high side. It has snooty vibe for absolutely no reason (theyll practically laugh at you if you try to get a table without a reservation). The dining room is loud, crowded, and lacking any personality and the food is just slightly above average. If you are thinking about dining at Tayst, I would recommend skipping it and trying some on the more unique places in Nashville. Pros: valet Cons: , high price, snob-ish more

Great experience 10/31/2004

Probably the most consistently great experience I've had in Nashville dining. Service is prompt and friendly. They actually remember my name. Pros: good value, world class food more

Pleasant change 10/30/2004

How refreshing to be given a portion meant for a person, not a committee. Each person in our group of six commented on how we were satisfied, without being too full. Which meant we had room for the outstanding creme brulee. How pleasant to smell the food, without an undertone of cigarette from the bar, like most restaurants. We appreciated the wine list, with headings like ""Spicy food-friendly."" Attentive, friendly service (on a busy Saturday night) in addition to the excellent food. Pros: Smoke-free, Appropriate portions, Wine suggestions more

Don't go hungry... 10/24/2004

We went to Tayst last month. For three cocktails, one appetizer, and two entrees, we spent $100. This isn't unusual in Nashville, but what we didn't get much for our money. I had the steamed clams appetizer, which was good but smallish. I had the Poussin entree' and was very disappointed. The meat of the dish consisted of five bites of chicken. This would have been acceptable at a tapas restaurant, but $20+ for five bites of chicken?! The service wasn't great: it took about a half-hour after we'd cleared our appetizers to receive our entrees. The server came out at one point and apologized for the ""kitchen mix-up,"" but no effort to assuage us was made. I can understand a busy kitchen on a Saturday night, but Tayst is a relatively small restaurant. And they apparently like to make small food as well. Pros: Good weekend access, Bar selection, Bar staff Cons: , Hit-or-miss service, Beatnik atmosphere more

We'll be back -- and bring our friends 9/4/2004

My husband and I had a wonderful experience here. Portions not huge, but just right given the complex and well-balanced flavors. Staff was cheerful, helpful and genuine. Atmosphere upscale and romantic. Highly recommend the ""Donuts and Ice Cream"" appetizer--shrimp beignets and frozen garlic butter with berry coulis. The creme brulee was to die for. Pros: Great food, service, atmosphere more

An example of great... 6/26/2004

The food is great, but the service is BETTER. This is an example of fine dining, modern cuisine, and ""being classic"" combined into one. No smoking bar makes it even better! Pros: Manager, Servers, Chefs more

Beverly Colby 6/5/2004

When in Nashville, I have spent at least 4 evenings enjoying every ""tayst"" of the food and I always leave yearning to return soon. The food prepared and served at tayst is just as delicious and of the quality of some of the supposedly finest and widely known restaurants in Boston where I eat often. One always has the feeling all who work there really enjoy what they are doing! Pros: simply classy decor, excellent food, unbeatable value more

Great atmosphere 5/17/2004

Tayst is somewhat small, but in a cozy way. Our server, Courtney, did an excellent job of recommending wines and entrees and was there just when we needed her. The roasted chicken with couscous is delicious and at a reasonable price. I plan on visiting this restaurant again soon. We dined there on a Friday night, and there was plenty of parking on the side of the building. Pros: nice wine list, atmosphere, service more

Tayst is a Winner! 4/26/2004

The food was excellent. The fish was fresh, elegantly prepared and well presented. We all shared our dishes. One had chicken, one had beef, three had fish. All dishes pronounced heavenly! Dessert was wonderful too! The service was unobtrusive and speedy. We liked that the servers weren't too familiar, but just did their jobs efficiently. We felt comfortable and not rushed. I already recommended Tayst to several friends. Pros: Excellent service, Very Clean, Valet Parking more
