Creepy, weird, awful service 5/28/2010

My wife and I love Thai food, so we were delighted to find that this was so close and had reasonable prices. When we arrived, we found that the dining area was very crowded, to the point where we couldn't hear each other and could hear the details of our neighboring tables' conversations. We ordered two iced coffees and two bowls of curry. We waited for 30-40 minutes without being served -- not even our coffee. People who had arrived after us were being served drinks and appetizers, but they seemed to have forgotten us. They did not even check on us or tell us how long it would be. We finally decided that we couldn't wait any longer, and left. After we'd gone about twenty feet, one of the male employees came out after us, shouting that the food was ready. We said that we'd waited too long and that we did not want it. We walked away, but he kept following us and harassing us, saying that he would follow us until we came back to the restaurant and that we were somehow doing something illegal. We had not consumed (or even seen) any of their food or drink -- otherwise, we obviously would have paid them. We left because we were too busy to wait another half hour for our food! My wife was creeped out and very upset, and we went home feeling disgusted and harassed. Pros: I got some free water. Woohoo. Cons: Service bordering on harrassment, crowded dining area, slow more

Hidden Gem! 1/14/2010

I agree with a previous reviewer that the place is a total hidden gem, espcecially for Staten Island where the dining scene def needs something original and exciting. The food is to seriously to die for. We have had Thai not only all over the city, but also have been to Thailand. Staten Islanders should be happy that this kind of good food is right here on the island. This is not one of those places that's pretentious and just about chic decor but serves mediocre food. I wish people would support local business, (instead of going to chains) and stop knocking on real old school home cooking. (You don't want to know what happens in the kitchens of the chains) I find the brother and sister team to be very nice, just had a nice chat with the sister, other tables seem to regulars too. Talay Thai is awesome and we'll continue to come here. Pros: The food! Cons: No parking more

Talay Thai unprofessional and often times rude 11/27/2009

I have eaten here several times and everytime i have found the brother and both sisters to be very rude and abrupt when taking orders. I never understood why because there really was no particular reason especially if i am offering them busines. I have talked to other people who have been there and they said the same thing. Its a shame because the food is really good but sometimes service over rides the food when your looking for a place to dine etc. I must say that the last time i was there i saw a new girl working and she was really nice and for the first time i felt like i was not being talked down to when i placed my order....lol. Anyway, i hope they themselves are reading this and maybe can learn something of the American culture in relation to business, and provde there customers with a attitude of gratitude for simply choosing to dine at there establishment. Pros: good food but needs a lot of work in hospitality Cons: unprofessional more

Very Upsetting!!! 10/10/2009

I've been going here for quite some time after I read all the great reviews. I love thai food and I agree that the food is good, why else would I drive 1/2 hour each way to pick up food. The other night though, after picking up the food and getting home, I found hair in my food and was totally grossed out and of course disappointed, so i called up the place and hoping they would rectify the situation by refunding us because we could not drive 1/2 hours to get a new order but the Brother refuses and was very unprofessional on the phone. This was the second and last strike. The other time was when we tried to call in our order but the phone line was busy so we had to drive 1/2 there and wait another 1/2 for our food. Another person came in and told them that there phone must be off the hook, but the Brother said, yes I know, I took it off the hook on purpose. If they are too busy, they should let the customers know so they can plan accordingly instead of having them come in and wait. His actions were very inconsiderate to their ""loyal"" customers. Pros: Good food, if it comes out ok Cons: Poor business practices/customer satisfaction, slow service more

Great, Fresh, Flavorful Thai 4/19/2009

This is a hidden gem on Staten Island for Thai Food. I've had Thai all over the City and this is one of the best. I've eaten here four times and I've always had a great meal. Food is fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. Although service can be slow sometimes, it's definitely worth the wait. I also like the fact that they don't hurry you out of the place so that you can sit and actually enjoy your meal. If you like Thai Food, you will definitely love this place. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Pros: Great Fresh, Flavorful Food, Great Prices Cons: Service sometimes can be slow. more

THE NEW SPANISH PLACE TO BE! 2/5/2009

I loved the atmosphere and music here! It's the new Spanish place to be. Music is great.. ambiance is great.. not to mention amazingly clean. Crowd is very chic and classy.. although usually a bit too crowded.. everything else made up for it. Pros: Great ambiance, food, drinks Cons: Too crowded more
