Decent food, nice setting 12/6/2002

Visited Scoma's for lunch. Restaurant interior showing its age but was packed at 2pm. Had the prix fixe lunch which was a bit steep for what we had. Following a mediocre cup of chowder, my companion had some excellent grilled scallops and vegetables, but they could have put twice as many on the plate. I ordered the crab louis which although was an adequete portion, was less than spectacular. The chocolate torte dessert was a nice finisher. I actually went to Scoma's because I was in the mood for lobster. They had it on the menu...Australian lobster tail..for $49.95????? I'll go to Swan next time. The food is better and so are the prices!!! Pros: Decent food, Nice view Cons: Overpriced, Parking, of course more

Classic 10/25/2002

I have been dining at Scoma's everytime I am in SF since the 1970's. It is the greatest restaurant in the area. re: the person who thinks Long John Silvers is better, stick with that until you gain an appreciation for fine dining. more

Stuffed San Francisco Style 8/22/2002

Scoma's has become a family tradition. A visit to SF is just not complete with out their Seafood Saute Sec - always too much food, but always delicious! Pros: great staff, fabulous food, Old SF ambience Cons: too much food more

A Taste of Old School SF 8/13/2002

This is classic SF dining. Food is superb as is the wait staff and the down-to-earth ambience. Portions are huge. (I'd hate to see the size of the poster who says the portions are ""tiny"". I'm 6'3"" and 225 lbs and I've never been able to finish my meal!) Not cheap, but worth every penny. Long-time San Franciscans know what real seafood is. Take the advice of a long-time, second generation San Franciscan... Scoma's is great!!! more

Always Scoma's 8/8/2002

The first time I went in there at dinner time, I thought "well, another one of those pricey eating places." From the first spoon of soup that I slurped I changed my opinion. Everything we ate was just heavenly and believe me we were not starving, we had a great lunch at home. Subsequent visits reconfirmed my "now changed opinion & views." I strongly recommend Scoma's of San Francisco to residents and visitors. Vinod Rao Pros: Good Valet Parking, Excellent Food, Value for money Cons: Crowded, Nothing more
