I Highly Recommend Scoma's!!!! 6/16/2005

I can't help but wonder if the two reviews prior to mine are from people who look for bad in every situation everywhere they go. We were in the city over Memorial Day weekend. Crowded! But, we still talk of the wonderful meal we had at Scoma's. Our food and the staff were great. My husband and I travel extensively and we are lovers of seafood, we search out seafood restaurants everywhere we go when we visit the various coasts. We found Scoma's food to be excellent. The crab cakes, scallops, even steak was delicious. We may never return to San Francisco, due to the fact that there are so many other places to visit in this world, but we will always have a memory of the wonderful evening we spent at Scoma's. Go and enjoy!!!!! Pros: Great food, good staff, atmosphere Cons: crowded, a bit pricey more

Big Dissapointment 5/7/2005

I spent $130 dollars there on a dinner for two and was completely dissapointed when I left. The food was absolutely tasteless--do they even get their seafood fresh? It was very overpriced for the portion and quality of the meal. The table was very cramped and the interior probably hasn't been touched up in years. Our sever was really great, however, and we appreciated his contribution to the evening, and his wine suggestions. However, I would never recommend this restaurant to someone looking for a great seafood meal. Pros: great service Cons: bad, tasteless food, overpriced, poor interior more

Don't Waste Your Time or Money!! 2/27/2005

The highlight of our meal was the sampler appetizer. Our entrees were bland, and served partially warm. The presentation was less than appetizing. The service was the worst I've ever encountered from a supposedly upscale resturant. Our waiter was rude and make sure we knew he obviously couldn't wait to go home. He practically snapped at us for asking him to elaborate on the menu items. Moreover, he never welcomed us, or offered any assistance upon our arrival. We had to ask for a waiter after waiting over 15min with no service. Thankfullly, there was a shift change and Ernie saved the day as our new waiter. But the food was still tasteless.....we won't be back. Pros: Ernie, Sampler Appetizer Cons: View--An Alley, Service, Food more

LOCAL FAN 12/28/2004

I am a resident of this great city and am well aware of the many great restaurants here. This is one of them. Great portions for the money. Yes it's crowded and tourists come here, but it's Fisherman's Wharf. What do you expect? Cost-wise, a recent trip w/ 2 friends came to $140 before tip (2 apps bottle of wine & 3 entrees). I've had crappy meals on pier 39 for more $. Service was excellent. IMPORTANT: They do not accept reservations, but they do have a nice bar where you can enjoy a few drinks while you wait (expect 45 minutes or so). You can always leave you name and go walk around for a while. Highly recommended and I will be back. Pros: Food, Waterfront Cons: , Touristy more

Great Service 12/16/2004

I just had dinner at Scomas this past weekend for my birthday. Everyone in our party enjoyed their entrees, however 2 of the steaks were overcooked. Our waiter quickly replaced them with the right ones. He was amazing, their were 11 of us and he didn't even have to write down our orders(Got them all right) The wait for a table was laborous, we waited 1 hour with reservations. In short, this is a great place to have great seafood. Pros: Service, Food more

Garlic butter heaven. 10/16/2004

After a stressed August Saturday morning of playing tourist solo, I treated myself to an early lunch at Scoma's. The service was attentive and quick. Their speciality, a seafood combo sauteed in garlic butter, had plump, succulent shrimp, chunks of crabmeat and two langostino tails. (I requested no scallops, which were also listed as being in the dish.) It was divine! And great service! Pros: Fresh seafood, Fast, fast service more

Scoma's 8/26/2004

Maybe I am the old Grandpa he is referring to, but I found the old San Francisco atmosphere to be what I was looking for and as for a tourist attraction, well I see too many faces there that appear to be businessmen and locals and most tourists don't even know where it is. Their Cioppino and Calamari Saute is the best.....anywhere. If we are staying two nights in S.F., we eat at Scoma's both nights. Pros: Valet parking more

Go for the food 6/2/2004

Our server wasn't to great but thats nothing to judge a restaurant by. The food was amazing and talked about for a long time afterwards! The small bar and friendly bartenders kept us pleasantly intertained while we waited for our table, which wasnt too long. But the food was amazing, plain and simple. Pros: Food more
