We live by fishermans wharf but there are not very many restaurants in that area that we'd actually recommend to other locals. Scoma's is by far the exception! It's a little off the beaten path and doesn't feel like a tourist trap! They have a large variety of fish and pasta all of which sound wonderful. I've only had a few courses there and was impressed with everything. Their ciappino is great! Fun atomoshphere and great service. Love this place! Pros: so much too choose from! more

Always a good time 5/2/2006

Scoma's is just plain reliable. Year in and year out, I make several trips to Scoma's with friends and family. The place is just warm and fun and the seafood is always fresh and well prepared. I have never had a bad meal, bad service or a bad martini. (You have to usually wait anywhere from 10 - 45 minutes for a table which gives me the perfect opportunity to indulge at the bar in one of my favorites: Vodka martini served up with two olives and that blessed sheet of ice a top. Scoma's bartenders get it right everytime). I can't wait till my next excuse to get down to the wharf for some wonderful seafood. more

The best of San Francisco! 1/16/2006

Don't miss out on the best seafood and pasta in San Francisco. Fresh, reasonable, and authentic. Scoma's is the only reason to go to fisherman's wharf. If you miss this landmark restaurant than you miss San Francisco. EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! Pros: fresh, authentic, filling Cons: none, none, none more

Great Place for Seafood 1/13/2006

In SF, I dont think there are many great seafood places. The food is either not fresh enough, too expensive, the portions are too small, or the menu is too limited. That is not the case hear. The portions are large, the menu has a wide selection, the desserts and wine list are ample, they have a decent list of appetizers, and the seafood is FRESH. The service is average as is the ambiance, but for if you want fantastic seafood, come here. Although the service wasnt great, it doesnt take away from the evening either. I also like how there is terrfic seafood in the wharf, it kinda goes well together. Pros: Large Portions, Great Meun Selection, Fresh Seafood Cons: Only Adequate Service more

Great place 9/26/2005

I love this place and try to make it as often as possible. It is expensive but well worth it. The food is awesome and it is a great place for celebrations or special occasions. They have a great bar as well. Hostesses/host's are friendly and attentive and service is excellent. Every item that I have had on the menu is great and everyone I have been there with agrees. PROS: awesome food CONS: none more

The Best Seafood in SF 8/26/2005

this place is amazing. My friend whose family has been eating here forever introduced me to the place. the portions are huge, sourdough bread in the broth is amazing. Had to wait for a while since they don't take reservations, but they have a huge bar area so it's not a big deal. it's definately worth the wait. Pros: valet, great seafood, great service Cons: no reservations taken, pricey more

out of town native 6/27/2005

Born & Raised in the City and every time we get back from a trip to S.F. (Several times a year) people ask "did we eat at Scoma's" Yes we did and do. We go by 6:00 PM so that the wait isn't too long. The bartenders are great as is the wait staff. My only problem is that they serve too much food! Over all a good experience but not the only good seafood restaurant ic a city full of good restaurants. Pros: Location, Staff Cons: Too much food more

I Highly Recommend Scoma's!!!! 6/16/2005

I can't help but wonder if the two reviews prior to mine are from people who look for bad in every situation everywhere they go. We were in the city over Memorial Day weekend. Crowded! But, we still talk of the wonderful meal we had at Scoma's. Our food and the staff were great. My husband and I travel extensively and we are lovers of seafood, we search out seafood restaurants everywhere we go when we visit the various coasts. We found Scoma's food to be excellent. The crab cakes, scallops, even steak was delicious. We may never return to San Francisco, due to the fact that there are so many other places to visit in this world, but we will always have a memory of the wonderful evening we spent at Scoma's. Go and enjoy!!!!! Pros: Great food, good staff, atmosphere Cons: crowded, a bit pricey more
