A pleasant meal by the water 11/13/2006

Went on a Friday night. Waited about 5 minutes for a table. You sit pretty close to your neighbors, but this lets you see what you might want to order. Wine list is fair. If you are into seafood, make sure you check out the catches of the day. My only complaint was that Sand Dabs were on the menu, I heard another diner order them, but our waiter said they were out. It appeared that he made an attempt to check this out for sure, but I still had to settle for something else. Food was good, and service was quiet and efficient. Not a bad experience and would probably dine here again. Pros: Staff Cons: Parking more

im sure if you didnt get what i got, you would like this place. i got the chicken and it was LOADED with salt! i had to send it back and oreder something else. they serve all of the local favorites like clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. it was expensive though and you coulde easily find the same quality food at the street vendors. more

Highly recommended 9/26/2006

I highly recommend Scoma restaurant. You may have to wait 45 minutes because it is always slammed, but it's worth the wait. Portions are huge and the seafood is always fresh\r more

Definitive San Francisco tourist trap serves incredibly bland seafood 9/21/2006

Few restaurants in the world can take fresh-of-the-boat fish and turn it into the blandness this place specializes in. And, don't be fooled if anyone tells you this place is a hidden secret. Every hotel concierge directs guests to this place because of its theme-park clapboard fishing-shack-by-the-water ambience. Lines waiting for tables are long, even with reservations. Waitstaff are hayseed but endearing. Prices are expensive! Pros: Old San Francisco ambience; waterside location; valet service (no parking nearby) Cons: Bland food; expensive; tourist trap; noisy more

hidden jewel 7/23/2006

We live by fishermans wharf but there are not very many restaurants in that area that we'd actually recommend to other locals. Scoma's is by far the exception! It's a little off the beaten path and doesn't feel like a tourist trap! They have a large variety of fish and pasta all of which sound wonderful. I've only had a few courses there and was impressed with everything. Their ciappino is great! Fun atomoshphere and great service. Love this place! Pros: so much too choose from! more
