Editorial review from Citysearch 9/6/2014

SCC is the best thing that has ever happened to us. I have read a couple of reviews that were negative and that is NOT the experience we have had. I grew up in a mainstream denominational church that was not of the bible. I have learned more about the bible in 10 years than I have in my entire life. I think church is what you make it. You don't go to receive, you go to serve. If you go because you expect to get, get, get....then you are in the wrong spot. We are very close to our small group, our fellow volunteers and pastoral staff. For those of you that think it's too big, there are many tiny churches that need your presence and support. God Bless You all! I hope you find the peace you are searching for. more

A Dysfunctional Church 2/11/2011

If you are a older single adult looking for a church that welcomes you than don't go to SCC. The minister told me there is no money, space, nor leadership for adult singles. In the past, the adult singles groups have stopped functioning over and over again. The church is more concerned about married people and those able to contribute the most amt of money. They are more concerned about building more buildings than providing for the needs of Christians. A married person will not even take the elevator with you if you are single. Forget it if you are coming from a full gospel background for you are NOT welcomed for they do not believe in all the gifts in operation. The church is very dysfunctional because they do not talk about demonic forces either. No wonder no one is healed and the church is so dysfunctional. more

My Story at Savannah Christian Church 1/16/2011

I joined Savannah Christian Church at the age of 13. I was baptized by Brian Jobe who at the time was the Pastor to East Campus. At the age of 14 I joined the Technical Arts Ministry, now known as the Production Arts Ministry. In my service and in the worst of times the staff of the Production Arts Ministry were there for me and still are. I remember how bad I was doing in school in 9th Grade and on the brink of failing. The staff of the Production Arts Ministry came in and had a sit down conversation with me. They told me I needed to get serious. They said if I wished to remain on the team I needed to come on week nights during services sit down do my homework and write out notes and If I needed any help they were there for me to ask. Every since those nights coming up to Henderson sitting in that room and hearing how much they cared about me and that me passing in school mattered to them, that really changed my point of view on my life and on myself as a student, a volunteer, and as more

I love it here 5/25/2010

I was raised a Presbyterian and got tired of feeling worse after the service than when I walked in. I was ready to forget going to church but felt my two middle schoolers needed it. An acquaintance of my husband invited us to Savannah Christian 8 years ago. At first I was uncomfortable, coming from "the frozen chosen" Presbyterian crap. But the sermons weren't just a bunch of theology mumbo jumbo. They were relevant to my life. I don't agree with everything I hear, but I realized who Jesus is, where I had never "gotten it" before in the Presbyterian church. It's sometimes a little strict, and I applied for a job there. Yes, it's true they ask you to abide by some strict rules, which I probably wouldn't feel comfortable with committing to. My baptism isn't recognized either because I was not "immersed". For that reason, I won't officially join. I do participate in a weekly small group, look forward to going every Sunday and generally love this church. It's big, it's not perfect, they do more

Wonderful Place to Worship and Learn!! 3/16/2010

I have been a member of Savannah Christian Church for 33 Years, and I have witnessed first hand it's tremendous growth. I have to admit that when I first attended the new church at the Henderson Campus I was overwhelmed at the size and thought wow this is just too big, But once I was inside settled in my seat, the lights dimmed and I felt as if it was just me and God and The Pastor and the Worship team! I worshiped and sang just for God and I listened to the teachings as if they were directed just to me!! If you can make it through the front doors and once you find a seat open your heart and listen and you will find that personal relationship with God that will change your life for good!! You can't go in focusing on what you don't like or what you feel uncomfortable about because then you lose sight of what is most important, GOD!!! We are all sinners not one single person in that church is perfect, and we have people from all different backgrounds and income brackets but that is not what gets you into heaven, that is not what makes us Christian! If we were all perfect then we would not need Jesus because we would just float right into heaven no questions asked and the world would be a better place don't you think?? Sure there will be some sermons that make you uncomfortable about activities that you participate in or make you re-evaluate your life, but God never said being a Christian meant getting approval for everything you do, no you have to make changes in your life, accept the wrong and change bad habits and those sermons help you understand how to make those changes and work at being a better servent to Christ we as Christans will always be a work in progress but as long as we are learning and trying to change this is what helps us grow to a closer relationship with God!! No matter what size your church is or how many people attend that church the most important thing is that they are preaching and teaching the truth straight from the Bible!! You will always have gossip and those poeple who think they are better than you in every church no matter where you attend, but don't let those people be the ones that detour you from your close relationship with God they will have to answer to Him at a later time!! Savannah Christian Church also has a phenomenal Kids program and a wonderful youth group with tons of activities for your children to attend!! This church has so much to offer for every age or situation that you or your family might be in, so open your heart, take a deep breath and come on in, it will change your life for the better and help you learn to have a closer relationship with God!! Pros: Great Sermons, Wonderful Music/Worship Time!! Cons: That when People visit they expect everyone to be Perfect!! more

Don't miss the best - Jesus 1/10/2010

My family and I have attended SCC for 10 plus years. Yes SCC is a big church. My experience is, if you will jump into regular attendance, bible study, small groups and serve in at least one ministry, you will soon begin to know and love the church body. To receive God?s blessing at any church, you first and foremost need a relationship with Christ. That is what SCC is all about ? ?Leading people to a life changing experience with Jesus Christ?. Christ will do the cleaning up. The sinners will always be there. Our Senior Pastor said recently (joking) he thought about putting a sign on the front of the building ?Sinners Only Welcome?. I am a living testimony the more you sever and search for God the more he reveals himself to you. We (the body) are all sinners Saved by Grace. Please forgive us where we have failed you. Please don?t let a bad experience make you miss the best there is ? Jesus! Pros: God loves sinners. Cons: Everyone at SCC is a sinner. more

Simply stated.....one of THE most God centered churches found in Savannah! 12/11/2009

My family and I have been members of SCC since 1991 and we absolutely love it!!! The first thing that I hear when I tell people that I attend SCC is "Wow....it's a big church".....I am always puzzled by this statement though. I think it is great that SCC is making such a large impact in our community. Some people prefer small churches and some prefer big churches....I used to be one that liked the small church atmostphere too.... But, I found out that the more people that I met, the more involved I became, and the more I ENJOYED going to church...and the more I wanted to learn about Jesus Christ. Not everyone can say that!!! To get connected in a large church (or community, school, etc), you need to be involved. If you do not get involved, you will not be connected. It's pretty simple. SCC keeps the MAIN thing (Jesus Christ) at the center of everything. Coming to church with a servant heart and a servant attitude makes all the difference in the world. It's not about "how the more

I've finally found a place where I belong! 11/9/2009

I began attending Savannah Christian Church in 2004 after twelve years at another church where I did not feel like I was truly a part of the "Family of God". The first four years I sat in the very back of the church and would leave during the alter call. I did not feel plugged in and struggled with going or not some weekends. In 2008 my husband was laid off from work, both of my parents were in the hospital, I was afraid I was losing my home and my sanity not to mention going through the change of life. I wrote a note on one of the comment cards at church sharing what was going on and ending it with "stick a fork in me, I'm done!" I had two of the loveliest ladies reach out to me and help me to get involved with a ladies group. I have found my place at Savannah Christian's Celebrate Recovery Group in that it is their for people who struggle with hurts, habits and hang-ups (which I have all three). My life is being literally transformed by the ministry and the encouragement and t more

Makes a newcomer feel welcome! 10/19/2009

My husband and I moved to Savannah, GA a few months ago after my husband got stationed at Hunter Army Airfield. We were instantly welcomed, and although the church is large, were offered many opportunities to "get connected" with programs in the church. We went through their "What we Believe" class and their "Getting Connected" class, and joined a few weeks later. We were never asked about our income, or asked to provide a W-2.......\r \r Our children are very involved in the children's ministry, and the middle school Blitz program is AMAZING! Our middle school son just returned from a Purity Retreat with Biltz, and it was amazing to see the spiritual growth one can achieve in a weekend!\r \r My husband and I have just started leading a small group bible study at our house on Sunday nights. This is Savannah Christian's way of bringing a large community together into more intimate small groups. We have enjoyed many hours of bible study, fellowship, (and fun) with other believers!\r \r If more

Check us out and decide for yourself 10/17/2009

I have been going to Savannah Christian Church for several years. I feel that it is by far the best church I have ever attended. \r \r The church family really makes you feel welcome. There are many programs to get involved in, the sermons are relevant to current events, and the music is amazing.\r \r My daughter attended the Growing in the Son program. When she started preschool, the teacher complimented us on our daughter's development thus far. We attribute that to our partnership with the GIS staff and Kidztown staff on the weekends.\r \r What I really like are the small groups. Yes, it is a large church. The church organizes into small groups that meet once a week to discuss the week's sermon and perform a study. \r \r My small group is like my extended family. I am not from Savannah, so I do not have my family here as a support system. My small group is always there for me. That's the idea of the small group; it's what contributes to the success of Savannah Christian Church, a more

Savannah Christian Church is not a true Church. 10/13/2009

Savannah Christian Church is a Mega Church. You either get lost in the shuffle or trod forward trying as you live, learn, and grow through Christ. The leaders are judgmental hypocrites, and they don't even realize it. I went through some very trying times and never received any support from the Church. My griefs with SCC: 1. When I was a young High School student begging for some help and guidance, the Youth Group asked me not participate because of my sin. 2. I came back to SCC to worship with my parents while my husband was in Iraq and their Military Ministry was only a gossip group made only to make Officer wives and young wives feel ostracized. Oh that isn't completely true, they also pushed Pampered Chef on you. 3. I worked at their PreSchool Program, determined not to judge the Church by a few people. It was awful! Run by incompetents with no concern for their Teacher's welfare. I was bitten numerous times by a student. Then the leaders gossiped about me and said hurtful t more

Savannah Christian Church is a Mega Church. You either get lost in the shuffle or trod forward trying as you live, learn, and grow through Christ. The leaders are judgmental hypocrites, and they don't even realize it. Pros: Great Music and worship center Cons: Lost in the Crowd, Mean, Spiteful, hurtful hypocrites more

Savannah Christian Church preaches one thing and does another 8/14/2009

My wife and I attended SCC East until we were told I was not welcome because I am transgendered. SCC knew about me since Oct 28, 2007 when they gave a sermon on how they may lose members but they were opening their doors to the homosexual community. Things went fine until February 2009 when my wife and I asked if I could participate in women's bible study. The answer was more than just no, it was a total condemnation with discussion of child molesters and constant homophobic talk even when I told them I'm not homosexual. Each time I brought up the October 28, 2007 sermon I got absolutely no response. That is how they deal with hypocrisy, they act as if nothing was said. At SCC you are expected to accept what is preached and not to question anything. If you like a good fundamentalist church and want your kids taught to hate various groups, SCC is probably the place for you. I don't expect everyone to like my circumstances, but I was attending SCC to further my relationship with more

Savannah Christian Church is too big 8/4/2009

My wife and I went to church there for years. We were founding members of the East Campus. Donated money, time, effort, and our hearts to what we believed was a good thing. My mother in law even started to attend with us. Unfortunately, my mother in law died and we informed several members and staff at the church. Not a word, card, flower, phone call, nothing came our way by means of support, which was a very trying time for our family. We stopped going to church there, and about 8 months later, ran into a member of the staff from the Main Campus. He asked us how everything was going at East Campus. We told him what happened, and he said that he had no idea what happened or that we had stopped going to church there. Funny thing is, to date, we have not received a single phone call, letter, or anything asking us where we have been, or how we are. All that effort put into dragging the equipment to and from the gym, in the scorching summer heat, the money we donated, the time we put in on more

Too Big for their own good 8/4/2009

We attended church there for several years. Was one of the original families when they launched the east campus. My mother in law started to attend with us. She unfortunately passed away, and we informed several people from the church about this. Not a single card, phone call, or a word came our way. We were so hurt that our "family in Christ" wouldn't open their hearts when we needed them most. We stopped going to church there. 8 months later we ran into a supposed "friend" and she said that she had been missing us (referring to "not seeing us in the crowd") at church. We told her we stopped going there about 8 months ago. She said, "Oh, i didn't know you stopped attending, I just thought we were missing each other between services." Pros: Lots of Money Cons: Very little personality more

Proud Sinners 7/31/2009

my husband and I were asked not to attend as is because they thought she was a distraction. Just make sure your sin is pride like theirs or you won't fit into the great church mold. Pros: great music Cons: women are NOT welcome more

Really? 6/9/2009

I can't stand a church where the goal is see what percent of my income I can donate. I hate mega churces and lil' ol' Savannah is not used to big bully churches. I wish they'd fold up and go away. more

A home away from home kind of Church 9/11/2005

I absolutly love Savannah Christian Church. Feeling like I was in the right place from the moment I pulled in the parking lot is amazing. There are programs for every thing imaginable. PROS: Tons of programs for everyone, small groups, book store, child care, CONS: more
