Best

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I heard you. You just tried to say your favorite upscale frenchy fix can only be satisfied at the one, the only: Fleur de Lys. But really, it's a recession we'r...

Worst

I've been to Rue a few times and have really enjoyed the food, so when I took my parents and girlfriend out for my moms b-day, I felt like I'd be taking them to a fun little place...

We were very well treated at Rue Saint Jacques 9/29/2006

Went to Rue Saint Jacques on a Tuesday night, always had a good meal there but that night we had the Lobster special. A whole main lobster, roasted with Caviar and a pastis sauce served witha side of Cauliflower and Porcini puree. I never had a better Lobster, Truly\r If no Lobster try also the Cassoulet more

Service so bad- not sure if I should Laugh or Cry 9/29/2006

I've been to Rue a few times and have really enjoyed the food, so when I took my parents and girlfriend out for my moms b-day, I felt like I'd be taking them to a fun little place they've never heard of. We went on a Sunday night and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, that was the last prompt aspect of Rue that we'd encounter for the remainder of the evening.\r \r 15 minutes later the waiter returned. When I asked him to suggest a bottle of wine in the $30 to $50 dollar range, he helpfully pointed to a $70 bottle of wine and walked away without even describing it! Thanks...\r \r At this point it might be worth noting that the restaurant had 2 servers and a woman bussing, and there were maybe 6 or 7 other parties. Having worked as a waiter, it isn't what I'd describe as crushing.\r \r Here's how the meal broke down with the wait time listed (seriously)\r \r 15 Mins- Got Wine- Poured wine so fast, drops flew out of the glass an onto the table\r \r 20 Mins- Ordered apps and entree's.\r \r 45 Mins- Got apps! Wanna guess what the apps were. Each one of us got the Mushroom Soup! Seriously, were they picking them out back? Oh yeah, by that time, we'd finished the wine, so had to get another.\r \r 30 Mins- Got entree's and the other bottle, which also had the flying wine drops, Yeah!\r \r Frankly, I would have walked out early on, but we'd already opened the wine. Also, my father, bless his heart, kept me in check by reminding me that we were in good company. Nonetheless, the service was truly horrendous. Even by ""french"" standards.\r \r I will readily concede that the food at Rue is quite good, but in a city that has a delicious establishment on nearly every block, with service like this, it just isn't worth it.\r \r If you've got a spare 3 hours, check it out. I'll wave on my way to dinner and on my way back, and with any luck, you'll have received your apps by then. more

best cassoulet period 9/22/2006

Had the best cassoulet at rue saint jacques. It is the best I ever had. Withe beans sausage, Duck confit, lamb. more

Best french restaurant in town 9/22/2006

I took my girlfriend to RSJ for her birthday, They were so friendly and the food is excellent.\r I had Veal blanquette a veal stew served with a puree of turnips. My girlfriend had cassoulet and it probably was the best cassoulet we ever had. this place rocks more

Poor service, overcooked pork 9/20/2006

The service was unbelievably slow. Must all french bistros insist on giving bad and slow service in order to be called authentic? We waited forever to have our orders taken, never got water until asking for it, then waited forever for our food. Since it was so hard to get our waiter's attention, we tried the hostess and busboy, who both just nodded their heads and ignored our requests. Then my pork was so overcooked... it was like chewing rubber. Other people's food were agreeable but not spetacular. Then we waited forever for the bill... after we paid, my boyfriend was chased down by the server because they ""forgot"" to charge us for the beers he ordered... what a mess, what a mess. I always thought neighborhood bistros satyed in business because they got somethign special to offer... but not quite this one. Pros: Cheap Cons: You'll wait forever for everything more

Pretty and charming little place on Top of Nob Hill, right in my neighbourhood\r Went to RSJ several times and never been desapointed, they always have something new and special. amazing little gem 8/24/2006

gourgeous dinning room with earthy tone, this restaurant has all the hallmarks of a successful place. they are pretty busy on a week day and for good reasons. The food is superbly done and presented. The waitstaff is very professional and the whole ambiance is great. try the mussels with frites. they are out of this world more

Great ambience, somewhat sleepy 8/24/2006

This place has a wonderful spot, but it is rarely very busy. The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. I had white bass, but it was somewhat overdone and more chewy than I would like. The service was ok, somewhat slow and mellow. This is fine, as long as you're flexible. Overall, a good place to go for a casual dinner with a friend or two. Pros: Ambience, Food Cons: Parking, Service more

beautiful san francisco setting 8/23/2006

Rue ST Jacques is a beautiful restaurant the setting could not be more romantic\r as from the dinning room you could see the cable cars going uphill on Jackson\r the food is amazing, I've been to this restaurant many times and it seems that they\r always have something new on the menu to surprise with. The prices are also amasing for the city more

Excellent food and atmosphere 8/17/2006

This was a fabulous dining experience from excellent wait staff, to the food, it presentation and the restaurant space. Service was excellent, friendly yet unobtrusive. We had the escargot and risotto for appetizers, both excellent. For entries we had filet mignon and lamb. The entries were cooked perfectly, especially the lamb. For dessert, we had the tart - a must have.\r \r Overall, this was an excellent evening. I will now be a regular at this fine establishment. Pros: Food, wait staff, atmosphere Cons: Parking more

A gem in Nob Hill 8/15/2006

Being a resident of Nob Hill for many years, it is such a treat to have RSJ down the street. The service is always friendly and professional. \r The best part is the food, my favorite is the romaine with serrano ham and goat cheese, and when on the menu the lobster bisque is to die for (One night I had for dinner 2 lobster bisque). The oxtail is also excellent. The shrimps basquaise are something else.\r The bar can sit 6 customers, and have some good wine by the glass my favorite is the Mark Newton.\r I recommend to all my friends and aquaintances this place for a date, a group or just having dinner at the bar alone.\r Pros: not expensive, good value Cons: closed on Monday more

very charming and romantic 8/13/2006

great neiborhood place 8/7/2006

Went to RSJ on a Friday night, it seems that this place is a best kept neighborhood srcret as it was not very crowded. We were seated promptly. My husband had frogs legs, something you hardly find in the city, I had the escargots , they were made with cherry tomatoes and sausages. I dont think I ever had escargots this good. For main my husband had Lamb and I had the Rabitt comfit. They both were exelent.\r I highly recommend this place, on top they are not very expensive Pros: not expensive more

bad service 7/31/2006

I had dinner the other night and received a very bad service. I ordered 2 appetizers and only one arrived. And when I asked the waiter about it, he said that he did not received any order about that particular appetizer. When he asked whether I still want to order , I said yes. But when the bill came, I was charged with 3 appetizers instead of 2. When I asked the waiter about this, he responded with a simple ""I don't know."" And the manager also responded with the same attitude. What's worse, the manager said that he doesn't want play games with us. more

Awful Service 7/29/2006

I just had a group dinner at this place and it turned to be an awful night! The service was very uncoordinated, and we were charged for the food that we never received. We ordered for the Ahi Tuna and Rabbit for the appetizer, and received none! we asked the server, and instead we were charged twice. We were also charged an extra order of sauteed spinach and the actual order was only 2. We tried to solve it out with the waiter and the chef, but at the end of the argument, the chef told us to pay the bill in full amount and leave. We ended up with paying 3-extra dishes!! Pros: Food Cons: Uncoordinated service, parking more
