We used to stay at this place every time we came to visit family (once or twice a year), and loved the small town feel and being treated like family until our last trip there this last week. We had a family emergency arise on our last day and we needed to check out. Dennis, the manager, explained that he couldn't check us out a day early no matter what and that it would have to go to the owner for approval on Monday and may or not be approved. This obviously wasn't going to work since it was an emergency and we couldn't afford to pay for another hotel that was closer to the hospital and still pay for this room even though we weren't staying there. We are in the military and always stayed here since we liked it and the hotel information is on file for our leave paperwork already. Danika McLean, the owner, was then called and the situation explained to her, to which she still said she couldn't authorize it and that she would take a look at the reason for NEEDING to check out a day early and authorize or deny us checking out early on Monday. That is ridiculous since it was very simple and she could have done it right there over the phone. She chose not to, after we already packed up and planned on checking out since this have NEVER been an issue at anywhere else we have stayed. To complicate matters even more, my wife is 6 months pregnant and we also have an 18 month old daughter.
Overall we were flabbergasted and surprised that even after calling and explaining the situation to the owner, which she didn't just say ""You are returning customers and locals, so it isn't a big deal, take care of your family and we'll see you next year"". Instead our trip was made very difficult and we had to drive back and forth to the hospital which was an 1.5hours away, which made for a 3hr. round trip drive when we went to go see him.
Obviously we will never stay here again, and we will also be passing along the info on to everyone we can let know so they don't run into the same issue and are aware of ahead of time the demeanor, morals, and attitude of the owner. It wasn't like we were trying to check out early for no reason, cancel half our trip, or we were just someone who had stayed here for their first time and were just passing through. We were locals, stayed here every year, and should have been and expected to be treated as such since it is an Inn and bills itself as a local Inn that wants you to feel like family. We would have been treated better at a major hotel chain and from now on will be staying at one.
There are other great options in Georgetown such as the American River Inn and the Hilltop Hotel.
Wherever you stay I hope you don't run into the same situation we did since it made for a stressful situation on top of the stress and logistics we were already dealing with with my Brother in the hospital an hour and a half away, and on the last day of our trip, so the extra travel just added to our already long trip home which was made even longer due to this (We live in MD now, so any additional travel to the already 3,000 miles makes for a not so fun time, especially with a pregnant wife and 18 month old daughter!)
Sincerely, The Hatleberg Family
