Truly unique and a cut way ABOVE the rest 2/6/2011

If you want some of the best and most unique Chinese food in Grand Rapids, this is where you'll find it. Here are a few examples: Pina Colada Prawns -- huge tail-on prawns, stir fried in a pineapple and coconut sauce. Delicious and truly unique. Zhou Zhong Chicken -- lightly breaded white meat chicken in a tart, spicy citrus sauce. amazing! Chicken Egg Rolls -- light, not greasy. According to the chef, they're quickly fried then baked to give it that wonderful light and slightly crispy texture. When my wife and I recently spoke with the chef about the unique food he served, he told us that most Chinese restaurants serve pretty much the same dishes (we agree) and his goal is to offer something different. He has succeeded. While Peking Woks offers many traditional dishes -- cooked to perfection, I might add -- their considerable non-traditional offerings makes dining at this restaurant a real treat. I'm almost hesitant to offer such a glowing review for fear that the word will spread and I soon won't be able to get a table on a weekend night. But when I come across a restaurant that is so much a cut above the rest, I just can't keep it a secret. Others deserve to experience it too. more

Lovely Meal, Wonderful Host and Hostess - a MUST for folks who enjoy good Chinese Food 3/26/2008

One of our first meals in our new home town, it was delicious, freshly cooked and well seasoned and the service and friendliness of the staff/owners wonderful. I'm sure we've found our new ""favorite"" Chinese restaurant. Definitely a cut above their peers. Our whole family would recommend not only without hesitation, but great enthusiasm! We'll be back.\r \r We ordered the dinner for 3, and Dad came along later and there was enough for 4! The soups tasted like they'd all been freshly made (we each had a different one) and the egg rolls, crab ragoon and shrimp were all cooked while we ate our soup. The pork mu shu (sp?) was great (we substituted it for the pepper steak) and the chicken with vegetables very nice, delicate flavor. The sweet and sour pork was what people expect, and not my favorite at any Chinese restaurant, but the kids enjoyed it. As I mentioned earlier, we'll be back, without a doubt. We left feeling like we'd not only had a lovely meal, but made new friends with our host and hostess as well!\r \r While we didn't try the dim sum this time, we are looking forward to sampling their ample dim sum menu, a rare find in most Chinese restaurants. more

Best Authentic Chinese Restaurant in Grand Rapids 3/23/2008

There are dozens of Chinese restaurants in Grand Rapids claiming to be authentic, but few compare to this little known gem hidden on 28th street. I have not had their lunch and dinner menu, but their dim sum menu is simply to die for. Never had I had such unique, delicious food from a small Chinese restaurant. Dim sum vary greatly from stuffed tofu and stuffed eggplant to water chestnut cake and meat-filled bread rolls. They are very small dishes with two or three ""samplings"" of whatever it is you decide to indulge in. It's name may be common, but this newer, family-owned restaurant has much that sets it apart from every other Chinese dining experience. more
