Best burgers 11/30/2007

My husband and I eat here weekly. The food is great and enough to feed a small army. The staff is always happy to see you and makes you feel like family. There is one chick who works there who is slow as molasses and good luck getting her attention when you are trying to get your check but the food is great and I've never had a bad meal there. Pros: Huge portions, friendly staff Cons: Some of the staff is a little flaky. more

Best Turkey Burger Ever! (PLEASE NOTE, the 7/6/2007

Outlaw's turkey burger is the best turkey burger on the Westside, if not all of Southern California. Don't get me wrong, their blue cheese burger & bbq burger are delectible, but the turkey burger is the one to salivate over. Service & decor is casual - no frills, but the smart peeps would never go to a burger/steak joint for that. I recommend sitting outside, enjoying the seabreeze and the beautiful sunny-then-cloudy weather Playa Del Rey loves to offer. Although it would seem that this joint was made only for the locals, they do cater to tourists & visitors as well. Leave the attitude at home - Playa Del Rey will not respond well to attitudes. This is becoming an issue with the recent monstrosity that is so called ""Playa Vista"" and the fools that have drunken the kool-aid & moved in. \r Hmm, I wonder if the housing being built on ANCIENT BURIAL GROUNDS has anything to do with it. \r Think about it. more

Avoid unless you like bad bar food 1/24/2007

Here is a place where the menu is obviously over the head of this bar owner. I was in a steak mood, ordered the 16oz porterhouse which came with a salad, bread, ""starch"" and a veggie for $28. Seemed like a good deal. Salad was OK, roll was as stale and cold as a brick. Ask the waiter to get some fresh bread. He went to the kitchen and brought back a micro waved version of the same bread saying the folks in the kitchen insisted it was fresh. FOOD RULE #1 NEVER NUKE BREAD. The ""16"" oz porterhouse couldn't have been over 10 oz's - cut only 1/2 inch thick and obviously had been frozen as it was mealy, dry and gristly ? this must have been an ?institutional? grade of meat not even suitable to be ground for hamburger. The baked potato was cold and the sour cream, dried up chives and butter were served in paper thumb cups that were so small they had to use two for each topping. The veggie I selected, ?mexi-corn? was canned corn mixed with canned green chilies. \r \r The place is cozy and if all you want is a beer and some chicken strips this could be your place, otherwise don?t waste your time or your appetite. \r Pros: OK for a beer and fries - anything else - forget it Cons: Operator has no concept of food quality - just a bar more

Stick with the burgers 11/17/2006

I have eaten here several times, had a burger the first couple of times and loved it- but had a steak the other night and found it to be both overpriced and overcooked. Also, I would say that the better bet is outside on the patio during the day- lunch burgers are much less expensive, and the indoor atmosphere is kind of ""meh""... the burgers are awfully good though, and they have a very good selection of bottled beers. Pros: Burgers, patio, close to the beach Cons: steak wasn't good, don't order a glass of wine (don't know what i was thinking) more

This casual Playa del Rey institution serves up heaping portions of comfort food staples. The most popular item on the eclectic menu are the oversized mouthwatering burgers--choose your favorite toppings and dig in. Other crowd-pleasers include barbecue ribs, chicken, steaks, pasta and seafood. Their thick and hearty clam chowder is a pre-meal must. Sports fans love to congregate around the restaurant's big-screen TV. more

Pretty Good 12/14/2004

Outlaws is pretty good. Not a great steakhouse, but pretty good. The portions are HUGE, and the prices are above average. I got the Pepper steak, which was lite on the pepper, but was topped with grilled onions, mushrooms and bacon. A lot of it. While that definitely adds something to the meal, I was expecting a nice pepper steak, and what I got was a regular steak with all that other stuff on it. more

great value for the big portion... 7/31/2004

my bf & i tried Outlaws for breakfast this wknd, and there are definitely re-visits from us in the future. the value for their delicious dishes are great, almost unbeatable around the neighborhood. i had their Denver omlette & my bf had their breakfast quesadilla, and they were both fantastic. just as our waitress suggested, we'll definitely go back and try out their dinner. i'm sure i'll have plenty of leftover food to go for my lunch the next day. Pros: value, food, easy parking Cons: , slower service @ time more

For Burgers That Can't Be Beat! 5/26/2004

Outlaws will never fail to meat your cravings. Don't go there if you plan on ordering something that's not RED MEAT! If you like a tasty BLT don't hesitate to try the AKA Al Brown which boasts 3/4 of a POUND of bacon!!! The burgers are the best I've ever had, and I've been everywhere. Service sucks, I have no idea where they find the worst servers but I guess it adds to the appeal of this place. A bit expensive, but well worth it. Pros: Burgers, 3/4 LB of Bacon BLT, Burger hot sauce Cons: , service, far from where I live more

Best Burgers in LA 2/3/2004

These are the best burgers in Los Angeles. There is no other burger in town that can match Outlaws for size, quality and flavor. The meat tastes fresh ground and somehow retains most of the steak flavor. They don't skimp on the ingrediants and offer many different options. And when you order a quarter pound burger...it's a quarter pound. It doesn't shrink down to the size of a nickel when they cook it. When God invented hamburgers, this is what he had in mind. Pros: Taste, Affordable, Portions more

Big Burgers! 2/23/2003

The burgers here are huge, and it's easy to see how your eyes might be bigger than your stomach. But they certainly know how to satisfy that craving for well-cooked cow, and if it's meat you want, you sould give it a try! Pros: Atmosphere, Beach Location, Burgers Cons: Small Parking Lot, Beach Location more

Perfect Local Joint 8/27/2002

Wonderful food in comfortable surroundings coupled with the beach and wacky characters have kept Outlaws at the top of the Playa del Rey food chain for 20 years. A great place for lunch, dinner or Sunday breakfast. It's my kids and my clients favorite place. Pros: location, food, enviorment Cons: a little pricey, can be crowded more

Good Food 7/3/2002

When I'm in Playa Del Rey I make sure I eat at Outlaws at some point during my day. They have great hamburgers, turkey burgers, and excellent cottage fries. The portions are huge and if that isn't enough to fill you up you can always come back early the next morning for breakfast. more

Not burgers - Breakfast! 6/2/2002

What's all this hub-bub about burgers? This place is a great spot for breakfast. Sit on the deck and enojoy the sun, or sit inside and watch the game on the big screen. Regardless, the food is great, and the staff friendly. Oh yeah - be sure to arrive with a great book your done with. Leave it on the shelves and take one that you haven't read yet. Pros: Food, Service, Fun more
