AMAZING! 10/18/2011

It's been a long time sinse I enjoyed eating out so much. Wonderful and inventive cuisine that put the smile on my face immediately. Very friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, reasonable prices. We ended up with a 70$ bill for two of us (and we had a lot of rolls), but I got 7000$ satisfaction! Definitely will go there again! more

Unbelieveable taste experience...the chef must party before putting the menu together 3/9/2008

I was not truly prepared for the selection on the menu. I have eaten sushi many times in many places, this was different. My taste buds enjoyed an explosion of flavors and combinations I would never have thought of under the guise of sushi. Though not any inexpensive meal, one well worth enjoying and taking others to. My one criticism is the available drink menu. The availability of some less exotic saki and or beer would have been desireable. Our waitress knew the entire menu by heart and was very helpful. An asside comment, though tall, she kneeled down to our level while explaining the menu and looked us in the eye. Pros: The FOOD Cons: high priced, drink selection more

love it or hate it. 10/30/2006

I have mixed feelings about this place. Controversies about the philosophies of this place can be easily found on-line. The kaiseki dinner @ $30 per person on Wednesdays gets a definite ""yes"" from me. However, I am torn about this not using vinegar in sushi rice business. I was wondering what makes the sushi from this place so bland, and now I know why. Other than that quirky tidbit, the food is experimental and fun. If you like hot sauce, you'd definitely be intrigued by their spread. Bun Lai has the personality to make this New Haven classic running. His mother is also a definite plus. She chats with customers (who she treats like family), giving them tips on gardening, etc. Great place to hang out if you're a grad student in the area. May be a bit too informal for some. Try it and find out! Pros: kaiseki dinner @$30 Cons: no vinegar in sushi rice more

Exceptionally creative food 4/23/2005

We love Miyas Kisekae dinners. For roughly $30.00 you get an entourage of dishes specially prepared by the excellent chef Bun Lai! Its best to call ahead to reserve the Kisekae. All you can eat, has never been this exquisite. The dishes have been different each time weve gone, and its great to know that the chef is creating all these dishes fresh, while you are sitting at your table. Take a minute break from sipping your hot sake to watch, youll see Bun Lai running between the sushi counter and the kitchen working up a sweat to serve up the most unique and flavorful dishes weve seen here in Connecticut. Hes truly an artist when it comes to cuisine. If you want to give yourself a treat in exceptionally creative and beautifully presented dishes, try the Kisekae for yourself and a date or friend. You wont be disappointed! Pros: Great presentation, Friendly service Cons: Hard to find parking, Slow waitstaff more
