My girlfriend and I celebrated my birthday here after the Super Bowl. We had a wonderful evening! The food was outstanding. Oysters were fresh tasting and steaks were done exactly right. Service was excellent. I only regret not dining earlier while music was featured. Late hour couldn't be helped. We'll be back! I highly recommend McMahon's for a special night out. more

Not worth the gas to get there 8/19/2010

Gave this place a second chance, not impressed at all. Between Flemings and Sullivans this is just not to standards. Husband got prime rib special I swear it looked like somthing from a Fridays Restaraunt...the potatos were dehydrated it was embarrasing, and the meat no flavor at all....spinach dried and corn looked and tasted like from a can....dont waste your money go a little further to Sullivans or Flemings they are well prepared in the kitchen and the service and ambiance is better.... McMahons outdated and only go for wine and bread! more

All I can say is WOW 2/7/2008

Amazing amazing amazing!! The place has a romantic and warm ambiance, the service etiquette was superior, and the food... what can I say, I have never been able to finish a steak by myself until this!! I couldn't put my fork down! more

Mighty Big Steaks 11/16/2006

My boyfriend and I showed up at this restaurant dressed casually and with no reservation on a Sunday evening. Although we felt a bit underdressed compared with most of the clientele in the restaurant, we were seated in the main dining area at a huge booth. Our waiter was very gracious and assisted us with the wine list and menu. As our main wine selection was not available, he suggested another wine at $18/glass. We decided to try it, and unfortunately, although the bouquet was wonderful, the taste was not even close to what I would consider an $18/glass wine to taste like. I was very disappointed. Live and learn. I ordered the New York Strip Steak, and it was far too large. In fact, my boyfriend and I could have shared the steak and taken some home for the dogs as well. I don't understand restaurants who provide such oversized portions. The McMahons potatoes were fabulous, and our shrimp appetizer was delicious. I'd wished I'd gotten two appetizers for dinner rather than the steak. My boyfriend's prime rib was apparently delicious and tender, but I cannot say the same for my steak. It was a bit overcooked and didn't have much flavor. After dinner, we did share McMahon's signature dessert...Champagne Fried Strawberries. They were to die for. One of the BEST desserts I've EVER had. I would highly recommend this dessert. Pros: Fabulous desserts, but the Champagne Fried Strawberries are the best. Cons: The New York Strip Steak was average tasting, but cost a whopping $43.00 more

Service & food not up to its regular standard on 7 Sep 06 9/7/2006

Been going to McMahon's for many years. 9 out of 10 times I have loved it. Prior to my visit on 7 Sep 06 for an anniversary, I had always been very impressed and was completely satisfied with the New York Strip steak I would order. The service was always prompt, classy, and the food exceptional. Last night, however, I was so disappointed I doubt I will go there again. We were seated in the Piano Bar (which we had known we would be in beforehand). We were also aware that a big gathering was being conducted in the dining room. A pretty young waitperson came over to take drink orders. My wife's drink came as requested, however I had asked for sparkling water with no ice. She returned with soda water in ice and had to go get my bubbly water. I couldn't find the usual NY strip on the menu and asked her to check on it. When she came back (promptly) with my water, she had forgotten to check on the steak, so went out again to check and returned right away with the answer. "Can't get it" In its place was a New York, bone-in 20oz for $41.95. Too huge. The glass that came with the water was poorly washed and smelled fishy. I ordered a rib-eye and fries with sauteed mushrooms. The rib-eye was done to perfection, but I didn't like it because it wasn't a New York. The fries looked like they had been put back in the frier to reheat them. The mushrooms were mushy. A manager person arrived, nodding his head as he assumed we were enjoying our dinner. I told him of my distress with the menu having no smaller New York, but he just left with a smile on his face, not even addressing my concern. My wife's prime rib was excellent as were her accompaniments. It took nearly on hour to finally receive the entree. Nobody cleared the many dishes off the table until we paid. It's the first time I've been to an upscale restaurant and couldn't find a NY strip. I'm appalled. Disappointed is putting it mildly. Pros: Still make good steaks Cons: Uneven service, side orders. Just not up to par. more

Still excellent! 5/17/2006

I had an excellent dining experience. Danita's Petit Filet is a perfect portion of an excellent cut of beef. The house salad, fresh corn & veggie of the day are great accompaniments to the steak. The corn was so fresh, cooked perfectly with a good crunch. The veggie -cooked escarole & leeks- wonderful in taste sauteed in olive oil and garlic! For dessert I tried the champagne fried strawberries: strawberry dipped in champagne-batter, deep-fried, rolled in sugar-cinnamon, served with rasp sauce and creme fraiche. Wow! Service was wonderful, very kind and helpful waiter! Pros: excellent beef, great sides, ambience/service Cons: n/a more

Fantastic! 12/8/2004

My wife, being from Omaha, knows steak and she won't go anywhere else. The best filet I have ever had. I don't know how they do it, but every steak we have had at McMahon's, was more tender than the one before. Amazing! Don't even get me started on the wine list. Pros: steaks, wine list, piano lounge Cons: , n/a, n/a more

Wonderful!!! 12/3/2004

Absolutely the best steak I have ever eaten. It's nice to have a local steakhouse that not only competes with but actually is superior to the national chains. Pros: Free valet, Not ala carte, Quality meat more

great salads 6/13/2004

When the best thing you can say about a steak house is that it serves a great spinach salad, you know the place has a long way to go. I don't know where the steaks come from, but I get better ones at Safeway. McMahon's and Sullivan's are a far cry from real steak houses. Ruth's Chris -- please come to Tucson!!! more

The best steak in town 3/7/2004

Moving to Tucson from the midwest, my husband and I had been in search of a quality steak restaurant in Tucson for quite a while. Some people recommended Pinnacle Peak (decent for the money) and Hidden Valley Inn (bland), among other restaurants. We were on the verge of forever grilling our own steaks, when we heard about McMahon's. We are now complete addicts (especially the steak christiani!) The food and service has always been impeccible, and the steaks are heaven. As social-pariahs (smokers), we love the bar! Initially we tried Sullivan's (also wonderful) but found the quality at McMahon's just as high, and the prices a tad lower. Valet parking also a plus. Pros: The food!, The service!, The smoking bar! more

What a real Steak House should be! 1/12/2003

Best steak I've had in a while. My wife and I were passing through on our way to Calif. and asked the concierge to recommend a good steak house. He picked McMahons. When we returned I tipped him a 20. Food was fantastic. Wine was delicious. Cigar was perfect ending. Pros: Quality of Food, Beckmens Cabernet, Cigar Bar Cons: Hot inside, Needed more A/C more

top drawer! 1/3/2003

An excellent restaurant with fine food, comfortable surroundings, and great service. more

Merry Christmas continues 12/25/2002

My wife, daughter and I went to McMahons Steakhouse for dinner on Christmas Night. They offered a Christmas Menu. The first choice was lobster bisque or a tossed salad. We all chose the Lobster Bisque. It was creamy with little bits of lobster floating in it. For the appetizer my wife chose shrimp cocktail, my daughter crab stuffed mushrooms and I chose baby Wellington. For the entree my wife chose sauteed shrimp, my daughter prime rib with mashed potatoes and I had filet of beef with mashed potatoes. Then you had your choice of coffee (with chocolate and whip cream to put in it). cappuccino or espresso. This was topped off with little servings of cheesecake with fresh blueberries, Jack Daniels no flour cake and a pastry shell filled with whip cream more

Not Worth the Money 12/19/2002

This was an outing I really looked forward to, but was very disappointed. My food was dry and the servers were trying really hard to free up our table. I would not go back. Pros: good ambiance Cons: expensive, menu not creative, not a good value more

not worth it 12/4/2002

For the price we paid I would expect the service to be efficient and courteous, instead the service was slow, the food was mediocre and there was a hair in my daughter's salad! more

date nights r best 10/24/2002

Used to be a great place, Tucson's Ruth Chris. Used to be. Weeknight when you might want to go to escape the crowd escapes the chef. Filet was excellent, asparagus was mushy sauced with just from the fridge frosty goo, potato was a potato. Bread was returned, burned black on the bottom, but never replaced. Only things truly outstanding, the tab, they are proud of the price. Too bad not the food. Ambience was reminiscent of a great steakhouse but wasn't one. Pros: meat, ambience, valet parking Cons: sides were awful, server indifference, big price small value more

WELL WORTH IT 8/29/2002

Cigar and Piano Bar's excellent for lunch-coctails and or dinner. Staff is friendly and helpful. Food is some of the best in Tucson. Prices are reasonable for level of food & service. You get what you pay for. Dinning room is excellent for any or special occassions and not rushed or canned as in other staak houses in Tucson. This is not a "how many meals can be served per square fooot place". Pros: Quality Dinning, Reasonable Prices, Excellent Food more

excellent but pricy 8/17/2002

food was excellent, atmosphere the same, service also the same. but a bit pricy Pros: service, quality, food Cons: pricy more

Wonderful food and ambiance! 7/26/2002

This is without a doubt the best steak I have ever tasted. The food isn't inexpensive, but I felt that it was worth every penny. The area we sat in had a live piano player who took requests. Don't forget to save room for Champagne Strawberries. more
