Been going to McMahon's for many years. 9 out of 10 times I have loved it. Prior to my visit on 7 Sep 06 for an anniversary, I had always been very impressed and was completely satisfied with the New York Strip steak I would order. The service was always prompt, classy, and the food exceptional. Last night, however, I was so disappointed I doubt I will go there again.
We were seated in the Piano Bar (which we had known we would be in beforehand). We were also aware that a big gathering was being conducted in the dining room. A pretty young waitperson came over to take drink orders. My wife's drink came as requested, however I had asked for sparkling water with no ice. She returned with soda water in ice and had to go get my bubbly water. I couldn't find the usual NY strip on the menu and asked her to check on it. When she came back (promptly) with my water, she had forgotten to check on the steak, so went out again to check and returned right away with the answer. "Can't get it" In its place was a New York, bone-in 20oz for $41.95. Too huge.
The glass that came with the water was poorly washed and smelled fishy.
I ordered a rib-eye and fries with sauteed mushrooms. The rib-eye was done to perfection, but I didn't like it because it wasn't a New York. The fries looked like they had been put back in the frier to reheat them. The mushrooms were mushy.
A manager person arrived, nodding his head as he assumed we were enjoying our dinner. I told him of my distress with the menu having no smaller New York, but he just left with a smile on his face, not even addressing my concern.
My wife's prime rib was excellent as were her accompaniments.
It took nearly on hour to finally receive the entree.
Nobody cleared the many dishes off the table until we paid.
It's the first time I've been to an upscale restaurant and couldn't find a NY strip. I'm appalled.
Disappointed is putting it mildly.
Pros: Still make good steaks
Cons: Uneven service, side orders. Just not up to par.
