Best

I love the whole experience of Key Lime Pie!! I started coming late last year in 2009. f you want great, smooth hair and a stylist that will listen to what you want, go to Jenny!!...

Worst

I am new to salons and did not go to Key Lime with a totally clear idea of what I wanted, but I had the jist- a natural pretty hair cut and color to look elegant for my wedding. ...

Concerned about turnover, where's the old staff? 6/17/2007

I've been going to the salon for over 5 years but in the last two I've noticed serious turnover problems in the salon section. (not as much in the spa). I've had two bad cuts in a row, and DJ is now doing my color and its not going well. I noticed someone had found Mimi, anyone know where Katie, Eric, Sabine, Jeanette or Tim are now working? I even liked Billy (who was very new). I'm just not sure I can trust the salon to be consistent. The last two times, my color was also off, didnt seem to match my previous formulas... Pros: beautiful spa space Cons: something is going very wrong with the salon staff, they're disappearing... more

I found Eric!!! 5/29/2007

DO NOT GO TO KLP!!! I found Eric at Midtown Hair Salon, he is wonderful and you don't have to wait. Please listen to all the prevoius reviews, I keep looking at them to make sure I was not off base, this place is the worst... Pros: the look of the salon - don't be fooled Cons: staff, appointment is more like a suggestion, owner DJ is not professional more

The final straw! 5/25/2007

I have been going to Key Lime Pie for about a year and a half and I will never be back! While it is really convenient to my home and uses Aveda products and I've never had a bad haircut, I think the owner (DJ) is pretty crazy and makes the atmosphere miserable for everyone there. I've probably been through about 6 stylists in the 18 months I've gone there. I was with Said for a couple of cuts and then he was fired. Then they rehired him for a few months, and yesterday I called KLP to find out that he's "no longer with Key Lime Pie". I am tired of being juggled from one new stylist to another, only to have that one fired or quit after a cut or two. This is poor customer service to assume that customers will keep flocking despite not having enough time to build trust or rapport or a relationship with a stylist. Whenever DJ is around, everyone is really tense and unhappy and quiet. When's she out, it's much more relaxed. I feel some loyalty to my stylists but not to the salon itself after seeing how uncomfortable it seems there. I've only had a long wait once - otherwise, I was always served within a couple of minutes after walking in. However, my stylists have all been very meticulous (I have very short hair) so the cuts took up to 90 minutes. My recommendation is that if you have a stylist there that you love, sneak him/her your contact info on your way out. I don't know if anyone has ever tried this, but I wish I had with all the stylists I went through while there who I would like to track down. I am never going back to KLP! Thanks to whoever found Mimi and Fresche - I'll go to her unless I can find Said! Pros: Great decor, knowledgable and skilled stylists Cons: Tension between staff and owner, stylist turnover, parking more

Why their may be high turn over 5/9/2007

I had been goign to KLP for about 1.5 years. During that time I never once had my hair cut by the same person. While I had the same colorist, she informed me she was leaving on the down low since it is not any salons obligation to tell you your colorist is leaving (they want you with them not to follow the colorist). Once she moved she finally told me why their was such high turn over... besides being treated poorly by the owner, they were also being ripped off by her as well. I want to try thier message/facial but am reluctant. I never had a prpblem with waiting or service. Pros: good products Cons: high turn over more

Takes Forever!! but It was perfect. 3/18/2007

When I first got to KLP I was offered tea and complimented... It was nice, I was walked back and began my highlights. The colorist I had was extremely concentrated and didnt talk much. But once he rinsed my hair out I noticed that the color was probably the best I'd ever had. Unfortunately it took another 45 minutes to style my hair which I have to admit was definitely world class. Overall it was the best color and style I'd ever had but unless your going to a photoshoot this is NOT the salon for you. Pros: Extremely precise color and style, Cons: Parking and took almost 3 hours for color more

Worst Ever!!! 2/24/2007

I'm not one to bash an establishment without sufficient data. I've been going to KLP for a year because it was recommended by a friend when I moved to Atlanta. LIke many who have posted reviews, I continued going to KLP because of Mimi (thanks btw to the customer who found her at Fresche). Mimi is great and I can't say enough good things about her. However, the customer service at KLP is nonexistent. In the past year I have gone through 3 colorists because everybody keeps quitting. Each time the salon has not had the decency to call me and let me know that my colorist quit, instead they just let me show up and tell me that because of the unfortunate situation, DJ (the owner) will color my hair. DJ has never even touched my head. Each time, I actually got an inexperienced assistant with DJ telling her what to mix - I've gotten better results in my own bathroom. To top it all off, the "amazing" DJ is always backed up, last time was the worst and the straw the broke the camel's back - my color took 4.5 hours. I was furious! I tried to get my formula from them so I could take it to another Aveda salon with no luck - I'd rather just risk it than waste another ENTIRE day at KLP. Cons: horrible customer service more

Bad Etiquette 2/23/2007

I recently made a wax appointment at Key Lime Pie and when I called to make my appointment, a stylist answered the phone, so my booking took at least 20 minutes. I understood the amount of time and I appreciated the fact that they were cross-training their employees...or so I thought. Anyway, the appoinment was confirmed for a Saturday so I rearranged my work schedule for Sat. and planned on being there. Well, Friday night at 8pm I received a call informing me that I was schdeduled for an appointment that morning (friday) and so I apologized and explained that I thought the appointment was Saturday morning. After that, she then asked me for my credit card because I needed to take care of the appointment due to their 48 hour cancelation policy. I was furious. I explained that a stylist had made my appointment and that she had confirmed a Saturday with me, also that no one had explained the cancleation policy to me so even if I had done it on purpose, I still wouldn't have paid. Anyway, she put me on hold for a couple minutes, got back on the phone and explained that they had had a rough day that day and apologized. I then tried to rebook and she said that they had no openings. I was completely unhappy with the entire situation and will never go there or refer anyone. Being in the same kind of business, I hope they learn that wether you have an opening or not, it is best to attempt to squeeze in a client or at least provide some kind of a solution. I had made the appointment before I was leaving town, so getting that phone call Friday night at 8pm made it impossible for me to get another appointment before I left. more

high turnover, terrible service 2/9/2007

i went to key lime spa for three years for massages and waxing. the turnover among employees is high and none of the employees I worked with were happy with the ownership and management. this translates into generally mediocre service and an unpleasant experience. I won't go back despite living two blocks away. Pros: location, decor Cons: service more

MIMI CUT MY HAIR 1/30/2007

Mimi has cut my hair for over 2 years and was wonderful. i went in to get my haircut and they told me mimi was sick. so i got my hair cut with someone else. i then proceded with the haircut and the owner came up to me and told me that mimi was no longer with the company. she made me feel a little uncomfortable because she had never talked to me before. i have searched and searched for her and i have recently found her at fresche salon in grant park. i am so happy. more

Awful customer service and tense, unwelcoming environment! 1/21/2007

I have had many massages in my day at various spas, and have never encountered such a strange atmosphere than Key Lime Pie. I entered the spa and was not greeted by anyone. Workers walked by me with fresh towells and robes and were cleaning up (looking miserable) and just ignored me, when clearly I was there for a treatment. I went to the front of the salon to "check-in" and was ignored, as well. When I finally did get someone's attention, she was cold and seemed bothered by my presence. She brought me to the spa area and I sat around for a while on the couch, waiting for my masseuse to retrieve me. My masseusse was the only positive part of my experience. She gave me her card and, months later, I called the spa, asking specifically for that same masseusse, and the woman on the phone responded with a lot of atitude that she "no longer is with Key Lime Pie." I now understand that it must be a miserable environment for a masseusse to work. I decided to move forward with getting a massage there because they had an opening late afternoon. When something came up that day, I called an hour later to cancel and was told that I was subject to the 4 hours in advance cancellation policy. I explained that I had just made my appointment an hour ago and that there was no way that I could have given that advance warning, and also that they had not informed me of such a policy when I called earlier. The woman refused to waive the fee (50% of the treatment cost) and ended up hanging up on me, even though my argument was sound that the policy was unfair when the I was not forewarned. I called back three more times and the woman refused to speak with me, putting me on hold and never picking up the phone agaion. She insulted me personally and proved that Key Lime Pie is not a business concerned with the happiness of their clients. Further, she confirmed my initial opinion that the staff at this spa is rude and miserable. more

AWFUL! PLEASE! heed the warnings! 1/17/2007

I went to Key Lime Pie expecting to get my hair colored by DJ "THE FAMOUS OWNER and COLOR MASTER" Not only was I put off for 3 HOURS, but when i finally grew tired of waiting (one's tea can only be filled so many times before you just don't want it anymore and that seems to be how they pacify clients who are waiting extrodinarily long times) I asked that I get my money back from my deposit (yes, you do have to make those to get an appointment) I was told "No." They offered to rebook me, because apparently DJ was just to busy to get to me. "Company Policy." I explained that I hadn't recieved any service, I was there ON TIME (15 minutes early actually) and that it seemed to me that THEY had violated my patronage. "No, but we can book you on Wednesday at 1:00"(it was a saturday) I explained that I have to work. "well when can we book you?" I was MIFFED and asked if I could at least speak to DJ. They asked me to wait longer. I was sure that this time she would make time to at least TALK to me. Nope. I went back to the front desk 30 minutes after my wait for a chat with DJ with STILL no word from her. Another girl at the front desk helped me this time. She said, "Unfortunatley I can't give you your money back because I don't have authorization, but I understand your frustration. This happens ALL the time here. It frustrates us as employees because we're expected to cover for her." At the same time I noticed that another client was REALLY upset with her hair. Tears and all and the only person listening seemed to be myself and another front desk worker!! WHERE WAS HER STYLIST!????? I decided to just accept my losses and left. Although I feel my money was STOLEN by this company, I must say that I count myself lucky to NOT leave the salon in tears like my fellow patron! Avoid this place like the plague! The customers are unhappy for the most part, the employees are also visibly unhappy and the owner.... Obviously delusional. I'm waiting for this place to just implode. Pros: Its a decent area of town. Cons: EVERYTHING. more

I don't want any more tea, I want a damn HAIRCUT! 10/30/2006

I have been going to Key Lime Pie for three years, and Mimi has been my stylist. I used to swear by the place, and recommend it to everyone I know - and was suprised by so many negative comments on Citysearch. Mimi was wonderful and just did a spectacular job on my hair. Then Mimi left, and when I called to make an appointment with her they assured me that DJ (the owner) would do a great job so I begrudgingly booked with her. I had a 5pm appointment time and sat there until 5:45 without being asked anything but "do you want more tea?" All I could think was, "NO! I don't want tea! I want a damn haircut!!!" I know who DJ is because I've been going there so long, and she walked by me and smiled THREE times without once saying "I"m sorry this is taking so long, I'll be with you shortly" absolutely nothing. I asked the girls who kept offering me tea what the hold up was, because she wasn't working on someone else, just sort of walking around the place aimlessly. They kept telling me she'd be with me soon. FInally I had to cancel the appointment and leave because it was at the point of ridculous - and when I told the girls at the desk they barely even offered my an appology. In the 3 years I've been going there, I've brought them at least 3 other customers, and have personally handed over probably more than $1,000 for haircuts and color and products. You'd think they would want to keep a customer like myself happy, particularly because my stylist left, and I had every reason in the world to leave. Thank god I came on to CitySearch after this disaster and another lovely customer of Mimi's had posted that she has gone to Fresche. I booked with Mimi last night, and it was fantastic. My advice: Steer clear of this overpriced, pretentious excuse for a business. The staff is all too cool for school, you will be treated poorly, will wait forever and will not be appreciated as a valuable customer. Go to Fresche and book with Mimi. Pros: The place is decorated nicely and the spa is good Cons: The attitude of the receptionists and owner, the wait, the enormous turnover of stylists more

Nice flowers - now where's my service? 10/7/2006

This salon is a complete facade. There is no level of customer service in the front desk staff or "owner". I had friends warn me, but I wanted to give it a try. I went with the intentions of checking out a salon for my wedding party & am certainly glad I did so BEFORE commiting. As if booking the appointment wasn't headache enough, my spa treatments were average (spa service was nice) - the salon however is a different story. . . I was sent over to the salon for my cut about 15 minutes early (from the spa) and I still had to wait over 45 minutes. After being brought back for my cut (which was booked with the wrong stylist!!!), I sat in the chair for atleast 10 minutes before the service began. The stylist didn't listen to a word I said - he took too much length off & the style was horrible to boot. I tried to bring this to the attention of the owner but she went to the 'office' and never came back. I have spent much less & recieved a better cut and service at other salons. I would not recommend coming here for any services. After speaking to co-workers & friends who have been patrons, they all agree: go elsewhere! Pros: Aside from the resonable prices - none Cons: Lousy service & no etiquitte more

Fabulous Facial Experience 9/24/2006

I was very hesitant to book services at Key Lime Pie because of some of the negative reviews. I feel that if I am paying money to support your business I should be treated graciously and I had experienced some snobbery when making purchases here in the past. I was very pleasantly surprised by the warm reception when I arrived. There was tea, fresh fruit and muffins waiting for me - a service that I have never received at other day spas around town. I also had a very informed and gracious technician, Sarah. She gave me a great facial and recommendations to treat intermitent breakouts. I was also very pleased that she didn't push products on me like some other day spas I've visted. She wrote a few recommendations down but didn't pressure me at all. I will definitely return for another facial and other services. more

Top notch spa treatments 9/22/2006

This salon is the best I have been to for waxing. massage and other spa treatments. They use Aveda products and the staff is trained in the latest techniques. more

Lack of parking and attitude not worth the experience 9/16/2006

My husband gave me a gift certificate to this spa. I went for a massage, but was a nervous wreck trying to find parking. I called the spa for advice and was informed that I was the ONLY person who'd ever had problems parking. I explained that two grocery delivery trucks were blocking the lots I could see and the lady just sighed and said I would be charged for my appointment if I were late. The "attitude" continued after I finally arrived. The massuese was nice, but I will never go back. more

DO NOT GO HERE, They are extremely rude and don't care about their customers 7/28/2006

Two of my friends recommended the stylists at this salon, but told me that the management is not friendly and they are not customer service driven. Despite these remarks, I decided to set and appointment for a cut and color. They take your credit number to reserve an appoinment, which I think is ridiculous and un-heard of. But I made the appointment anyway. The day of my appointment I got into a car accident and was running late. I spoke to the manager to re-schedule, she was extremely rude and told me that they will take a 50% service charge because I couldn't make my appoinment and didn't give four hours of notice. I said how could I give notice, I just got into an accident. She said it was store policy and they would not change their decision. 50% of a cut and color comes out to about $85 dollars or there abouts. That is ridiculous. They obviously don't value their customer's, and repeat business. I have never been treated so crudley and unfairly by anyone in the salon industry. Pros: I didn't see any Cons: RUDE Management, BAD Customer Service more

Worst hair experience in years 7/28/2006

One of the worst hair experiences I have had in a long time. I went in for a trim and color. My colorist was running an hour late. She did not listen to me when I told her I did not want permanent color, but insisted on using permanent and told me to 'trust her'. I am getting married in 2 weeks and did not want anything drastic. However, she used permanent color and I now have 2-tone hair. All I wanted was my natural brown color. The result: I was left with pinkish-orange roots and black tips. Even worse, she left me sitting in the chair with color all over my face, cheeks, and neck for over 30 minutes; I had to ask another stylist for a tissue to wipe the dark color off my face. Then, they couldn't find anyone to wash my hair out, so another stylist attempted to wash it. Unfortunately, he failed to wash all the color and shampoo out of my hair. When Mimi (the saving grace of the entire salon) attempted to trim my hair, she realized it still had shampoo and color in it and had to re-wash me after the other stylist refused to rinse it back out without even apologizing. I complained that the color was unacceptable, but I didn't even get an apology and was rudely told that it was the lighting. I couldn't be seen again for three days for them to fix it! So, I had to walk around with pinky-orange hairfor 3 days. I was assured that the owner would call me to talk about my options for fixing it, but she never did. I've been in tears for days at how awful my color was. Thank GOD I was able to get an appointment for an emergency color-correction at Vis-a-vis. It took 5 hours over a span of 2 days to get my hair back to normal, not to mention the hundreds of dollars I've spent trying to fix it...and I didn't get so much as an "I'm sorry" from the salon. DO NOT GO HERE. Not only are the stylists rude, but they are incapable of doing a simple "tint" of color. Pros: Mimi, the only good stylist Cons: hard to find parking, tense atmosphere, rude staff more

I actually liked KLP! 7/18/2006

The stylists are always attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to do whatever style I ask for. I'm sure if I had let them do whatever they wanted, I would have ended up with something crazy, but I am always specific about what I want. This is my favorite salon in Atlanta, hands down, and the prices are reasonable as well. I moved here from a medium-sized town that had much pricier salons with horribly long waits, product pushing, and lots of catfights between the stylists. Everyone at KLP seemed genuinely happy to be there. My only complaint is stylist turnover - I always see the same faces there but every time I call my stylist no longer works there. I've been through 4 stylists in less than a year there. All of Mimi's regulars seem to love her, and DJ (the owner) is one of the top colorists in the US. The cuts can take over an hour and color is 2-1/2, but I felt it was due to the precision and attention. I didn't spend more than a minute or two in the waiting area. I always get tons of compliments after going to Key Lime Pie, even from the other clients while I'm there! I highly recommend this salon. Pros: friendliness of staff, atmosphere, skill Cons: some staff turnover, music sometimes gets too loud more

Not Satisfied 6/23/2006

I went here because all my friends raved about it, and said it was affordable. I am a college student close by. I was not satisfied and am not a particularly picky person. When I got to the salon I was told that I couldn't get a trim because I didn't ask for one on the phone. Apparently there wasn't time for one- even though my partial highlight took 3 hours, including one hour of styling. The stylist didn't say a word to me the entire time, even though I tried to make conversation. She spoke to other stylists a little. My partial highlight came out alright, nothing special. I have been to about 4 other salons, and none of them have made me feel uncomfortable like KLP. Maybe it was just my experience, but I don't think I'd ever go back. Spend your money elsewhere. Pros: Location Cons: Staff, Attitude, Experience more
