Editorial review from GrubHub 12/24/2013

The food arrived 10 minutes after the estimated time, and by "arrived", I mean the driver called me, and said he couldn't find my building within the complex. I had to go down 4 stories to flag him down. When I bring it inside, it is missing a soda I ordered... The food itself was 2 star quality AT BEST. The shrimp seemed cooked alright, and the sauce was decently flavored, but the meat pockets were dry and bland (old/frozen/microwaved). The naan was passable, but we ordered a soup and received two containers, neither seeming to be the soup we ordered. We weren't sure what to do with them, but they made decent dipping sauces for the naan. It was quite a bit to just be a dipping sauce though. The driver encouraged me to come to the restaurant for their lunch buffet. I may do that next time, since the portions were rather small. Maybe the meat pockets won't be as dry when they are inside the restaurant. Overall, I can see a hint of potential, but I don't recommend delivery. more

Ecxellent service, food and atmosphere 7/26/2011

We only went to this place because Poonha in Duluth was closed but it was a great find. Although it's in a sort of desolate shopping center, it's very ambient inside. The food ended up being really great (I had the fish masala). Two servers were constantly refilling our water, clearing the table and checking on us. At the end, they brought out a mango ice cream that they make in-house. Made with fresh pureed mango, it was good enough alone to make the trip for. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place. more

Hair in food and unhygenic 9/2/2010

I found hair in food and told the server. The guy said its your hair take it out and eat . The food is not tasty and unhygenic. My neice had stomach upset. The reviews are false maybe kept my owner more

Himalayas is on our Favoriate list 10/19/2009

We have gone to this restaurant for over 15 years and it is almost always excellent. The prices are very fair and They include rice along with poppadom with the meal unlike so many other Indian restaurants. I am shocked that someone would expect something free because they saw a critter. This is the south and those little things are not uncommon at any restaurant. It is bad when everyone is always expecting something free for breathing. Anyhow i love this place and we have taken several friends over the years and they return as well. Give them a try and you will love it. Do not be turned off by the shabby shopping center Pros: Consistant,Personable and very fair pricing Cons: Non that I can think of more

Overrated 4/11/2009

After reading the great reviews and seeing this restaurant on the ""Best of Citysearch"" my husband and I went there. The food was really good but in the middle of dinner my husband noticed a ""critter"" (Citysearch won't allow me to type the appropriate name of the thing) behind the painting on the wall right next to us. He tried to handle it himself without causing a stir, then quietly told the wait staff trying not to cause a stir in the restaurant. It wasn't until I was hesitant to sit down at the same table again that they finally offered us a new table. All this would have been fine had they only offered us something to make up for it, like a small discount... Granted my husband never specifically asked for a discount but in a situation like that it's almost expected. We still had to pay full price for a dinner we were not able to fully enjoy. They could have gotten a pair of pretty happy customers out of it, instead we will never go back there again. ""Stuff"" happens, they just didn't handle it well. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Hygiene more

Pretty Good place! 12/4/2008

I really love the food at this place. I have been a regular customer for a few years now and in general I would recommend this place. Unfortuantely they really could use some lessons in customer service. When I first started going I didn't really feel all that welcome and it seemed almost like the staff didn't like me. After going more frequently (couldn't give up the food) though I started talking to them and the guys are actually pretty friendly. I don't they are just uncomfortable at the beginning but I think are pretty decent once you get to know them. They go out of their way to make me special dishes now, and have just been really nice. \r \r Overall though I think it's worth it, especially now. more

Great food and service 7/24/2008

The server was very helpful and recommended some great menu choices. The food was extremely good and the drinks were affordable. My family and I had a great time and can't wait to visit again! Pros: Service, food Cons: Maybe location more

I usual order specail dishes ahead of time and they are awesome....!! Pros: Excellent Indian Food.....plus can order special dishes Cons: None.... more

Himalaya Restaurent 1/30/2008

In spite of being a regular customer, my wife and I were refused to have our food inside the restaurant because we only ordered Samosas and Tea. We were told that it was fine dining restaurant and were asked to carry out the food even when we were the only customers in the restaurant at that time. We hail from a place where a guest is treated as a god and I am as proud of my culture and traditions as I am of my pride and dignity specially when it happened in front of my wife who happens to be Spanish and since I always spoke so high about our culture, values and traditions. \r \r I want to share my experience to any Indian family so that they know what to expect. more

Great food and service 12/11/2007

We have been going to this restaurant for several years and have never had a bad meal. We've introduced many friends to Indian food here and they have all loved the experience. The wait staff knows us and always greet us in a friendly manner and on one occasion even opened the doors early because they saw us sitting in the parking lot. Cons: The Naan can be a little burned at times more

Best Indian food in Atlanta 3/11/2007

We have gone to this resturant for years enjoying the food and excellent service. The staff know us and treat us with special attention. Recently we dined with friends that had never had Indian food. They enjoyed the food and said they would definetly come back. I recommend the beef curry medium hot. Having been to a lot of Indian resturants in the US and in the UK we know Indian fare and this is some of the finest. Well done gentlemen. Pros: Great parking, good courses served in a timely manner more

Their service was dismal 12/15/2006

The service at the restaurant was too pathetic. We were in the restaurant around 9:30 PM (which is not very late) but while we were having the main course, we were asked if we wanted ice-creams. When we said that we'll let them know once we had our main course - they said we need to tell since they were closing.\r \r After this, the waiter got the bill while 3 of 4 of us were still having the main course! Then, as I was just having a look at the total while I had put my credit card in - he pulled away the bill from my hand. Disgusted by this behavior, I decided not to give any tip. So after I signed my bill, he came asking for the tip and I told him the problem.\r \r And his reply was - ""Please dont come to this restaurant again. We wont let you in"".\r \r Pathetic.. I must say.. Pros: Food was alright Cons: They need to know courtesy.. more

Excellent service every time 5/1/2006

I am a regular visitor to Himalayas and have found this to be the best Indian Restaurant that I have tried in Atlanta. The service is always good and the food excellent. Today, for the first time we tried the buffet lunch. It was far superior to it's local competitors for this reason... they concentrate on QUALITY not quantity. There were not many dishes to choose from, but the dishes that were there were very, very good. We have sampled buffet lunches at other places and been disappointed. The tandoori chicken and beef curry were superb. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and get my vote as a Brit (whose unofficial national dish is Indian curry in the UK!). more

Hot time in the old town tonight 2/20/2006

My date chose this the week previous for valentines, and it has soooo much potential it's incredible. My review will be a little skewed, because the night we went they had a huge multigeneratonal family (with kids running freely) that dominated the small space. But after we were seated and ordered, that's where it picked up. The food is very very good, the servers were quick even as we watched them struggle to serve the big group, and our food arrived fairly quickly. We'll have to go again when it's less a ""family night"", but my date liked it. Pros: Great value, tasty food, good portions Cons: Small venue more

Best ITP North Indian 11/8/2005

The food here is very good, and it's probably the best North Indian restaurant inside the perimeter. It's one of the few places where you can Mulligatawny soup in the weekend buffet. Their Sunday hours have changed from 12 to 2:30 and the buffet price is now 8.50. Pros: Buffet, Inexpensive Cons: Strip mall location more

Hate that I moved to another neighborhood 11/3/2005

My wife and I used to live in Brookhaven and went to Himalayas often. The food here is fantastic! I love indian food, and this place is a gem hidden in a non-descript shopping center. We always hope enough people will find out about it to keep it open. The decor isn't anything to write home about, as it is in many indian restaurants. But, the waiters are very attentive. Really good food is hard to find, but you'll find it here. more

Hidden Jewel 6/30/2005

My partner and I read the reviews on City Search and decided to try this place as it was close to our home. We are so glad we did. The atmosphere was simple, but nice. The staff was attentive and nice. The food was outstanding and the prices were great for the quality of the food. Some of the best Indian food I have had in Atlanta. We will be back again and again. more

Best Indian 3/18/2004

Might not be the best ambiance or location, but the food is worth the drive. Food is guaranteed to be good every time - I have been going here for years and have never been let down. The service is always wonderful and compared to other Indian restaurants in Atlanta, it is reasonably priced. more

Excellent 5/28/2003

This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is fantastic and the staff is wonderful. Sometimes rude patrons bring babies in there too late who scream and cry and ruin the experience; otherwise this place is the best! Parents, please stay home and let the rest of us enjoy this gem! Pros: food, service, value Cons: allows infants more
