fun restaurant with a great beer selection 12/1/2008

We walked in on a Sunday from the train station, we were hungry and thirsty and GB's was great! We were told that the dining room was full but the same food service was offered in the bar. We grabbed seats and the hostess was there immediately with menu's. The waiter was extremely nice and asked if we wanted a certain channel on one of the big screen TV's behind the bar. We told him we were starving and wanted to order, he said he'd put our order in right away. We all ordered different types of burgers withe the garlic fries and beers. The burgers were hot and juicy (and big!) and prepared just right. The fries were great, I can see myself coming back just for some fries and a beer. I tried the Pilsner beer served in a big cold glass and I liked it. This place would be great for happy hour. At the end we told the waiter we were going to Union Square and he offered to call us a cab which I thought was very thoughtful. I would definately eat here again, they also have an outside eating area that would be nice in warmer weather. Pros: garlic fries Cons: parking more

Pricey and average... needs improvement 8/7/2008

I've been here quite a few times in the past months and tried a few of the dishes. I must agree with all that the beer is good; not being a beer-drinker I did want to try a beer on a previous visit: DARK beer. They recommended and brought a lager which I enjoyed, and ordered it. Unfortunately the food came 45mins later for my group of three, to our distress. We told the waiter and manager, and were given a discount on the total bill due to this delay in food delivery BUT we had asked when we ordered if there was to be any delay and was told no. A huge group was to blame for the delay. I find that for a place that has such (high) prices, that their service and food is nice but is still lacking.... for example today's meal was served well sooner but the garlic fries were thin and saturated with oil, a sign that it was refried, and when touched, it reeked of oil. The beer-battered fish ordered was tasteless, and for the first time in years, I used the table salt. As a guest of friends, I really can't complain but I know what I have experienced, and if I were alone... this place wouldn't be on my list of places to stop at. Parking is available at a garage if you want to pay; street parking is 30/60%, and not in your favor. Pros: location, view(s) Cons: parking (lack of), service more

Come for the beer, don't stay for the food... 10/7/2007

A coworker took me here a few weeks ago, and I'm disappointed I didn't say no, as there are SO MANY amazing places in San Francisco...but I was tired and just wanted to eat. I was pleasantly surprised by the beer selection and their generosity in offering a flight of beers for tasting before we made a decision on what to order. The menu was typical of this kind of chain, and the quality of food matched that. I really hate to be a snob about restaurants...but considering the cost of the food, you can do SO MUCH BETTER. Really. I ordered a steak that, while cooked to my liking, was very boring. It had gristly bits in it and lacked any strong meaty tastes. The vegetables on the plate were especially sad, just a collection of steamed veggies - about what I'd get from a frozen Green Giant box. Now maybe I'm expecting too much, but for the same price, I could have such better food elsewhere. The server was almost a parody along the lines of the waiter in ""Office Space."" And the host/hostesses were snooty, given that this is just a gussied up Applebee's with a brewery. I wouldn't go back unless I just wanted greasy appetizers and beer. Pros: It's in San Francisco Cons: Mediocre food, so-so service more

Good food, good pints 7/24/2007

Very friendly welcome and excellent service, along with great food made this a welcome stop. Worth seeking out for beer geeks, beer is German style instead of the usual ales found at brewpubs. Food is also a welcome change from the usual bar and grill fare - portions were also extremely lavish, so come hungry. more

Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant 11/19/2006

went on a saturday night, wanted to sit outside, wait time not to bad 20 minutes or so, crab cakes the best, marzen beer the best, veggie pizza good but greasy & it was sooooooooooooooooo nice out @ 8pm great night to be out & it was crowded more

Terrific hamburgers 8/18/2005

We had hamburgers here on a Sunday at lunchtime, and the place was all but empty. The restaurant sits across the street from the Bay Bridge, and the view is very nice from both the outside tables, and from several of the inside tables. It is attached to an office building, so we found the underground parking to be extremely easy(but remember this was a Sunday afternoon). Both the hamburgers, and the garlic fries, were terrific! Even the service was extremely friendly, unlike what is described in some of the other reviews. Pros: easy weekend parking, great burgers, great views of Bay more

Great Restaurant for Hand Crafted Beers 3/31/2005

Tall, Strong, flavorful beers always flowing at Gordon Biersch- my favorite is the blonde ale. Also try having a beer on the patio when it's sunny...well designed restaurant with a comfortable feel. Pros: Beer, Fresh Food, Spacious Bar more

Rude Hostess 10/18/2004

I give the benefit of the doubt to everyone. But this woman (or girl) as she wanted to be called was beyond unpleasant. She took a perfectly good night out with friends and ruined our evening at GB. It doesn't take much to be a good hostess...(here's your table, you're waiter will be __... BOOM that's it...) but insulting guests when they are complementing them for their hard work is mind boggling. Then the food came. Ice cold. $25 dollar steak that looked like it had been dragged behind a car on mission street. Ahi that was seared nicely, but had ice crystals in the middle. Potatoes are great though. Pros: Fries Cons: , Food In General more

Great Microbrew 3/6/2003

Whether you're in SF, San Jose, Palo Alto or even Memphis, TN, you can always expect great beer. I'm always game for a cold Marzen but I especially enjoy their seasonal beers like the Mai Bock and Winter Bock. The food hits the spot and if you're a garlic lover, get the garlic fries!!! The bartenders and waitstaff are great. I've been a regular for several years now and if you like good microbrews in a laid back setting, you will be too! Pros: Great Microbrews, Scene, Bartenders/Waitstaff Cons: Can get crowded more

Food Good, Service Not 1/26/2003

I have eaten here a few times and the food is always good but the service is always terrible. The wait staff apparently has no idea what they're doing and they have a great way of making you feel like a nuisance just for being there. It can also get very loud in there, making conversation difficult. Their beers are also below average in my opinion. But like everyone else says, the garlic fries are great. Pros: garlic fries, good food Cons: poor service, crowded, no parking more

GRRRREAT BIERSCH 12/15/2002

GARLIC FRIES!!!!! 12/15/2002

Those Garlic Fries ARE THE BEST!!!! Order them with the Darkest Beer! Pros: Good Food, Great Location, Great Outdoor Porch Cons: Noisy, Expensive, Crowded more
