Our Harbor Dinner Cruise event aboard MS Athena on September 19 went off perfectly.\r The cruise gave everyone a welcome break from the rigors of the Conference and the buzz ever since has been that this was by far the best event of the entire week! In fact, we are still receiving ''thanks-you's'' from around the world. \r The success of this event was crucial for us, as it was the only opportunity we will have for many years to assemble a group of our international airline entertainment clients, along with our customer base from the major Hollywood studios. The food was superb and your staff were obviously very experienced at making this kind of corporate event a success.Their smart uniforms and the silver tray service really emphasized the ambience of top quality that we wanted our customers to experience.\r Last but not least I know it could not have happened without you. You guided me through the menu selections and covered all the details in your proposal, leaving me with nothing else to do except send out invitations!\r I sincerely hope we will have the opportunity to work together on another event. If I could write this letter in fourteen carat gold, I would. You and your staff were Outstanding in putting forth what has been termed “a class act” by our customers. GenRad has traditionally invited its customers to a reception, held in a hotel. This year I was given the opportunity to step out of the ''same ole'' and offer something new.\r \r After spending two days viewing what was available to us from Anaheim to the coast, the vision became clear when I saw the Electra- Your yacht is not only unique, well-maintained and offers a grand alter-native to the customary reception, but it also portrayed GenRad of today. For an eighty year old company, we have the class of the Electra. We shine as does the brass of your lady, against the old, the teak of\r which the yacht is constructed.\r \r The magicians you recommended were enjoyed by all and Otis Brown was fabulous.\r \r Your food offerings were delicious; the service was excellent and everyone left with a big smile. GenRad's CEO dropped by my office last week to congratulate us on a job well done. It was truly, a success. Everything went great, and the food was marvelous. Our guests had a wonderful time.\r I'd like to thank you for all your help along the way. And especially for letting us drop off our wedding favors/items the night before. That was a real life saver due to the fact that everyone was essentially coming in from out of town and at different times. I can't imagine how Michael and I would have gotten those things over there easily on the morning of the wedding! You were a joy to work with and have a way of keeping things calm - which is exactly what a bride needs!\r If you talk to Nikki, give her my thanks again. She did an absolutely fabulous job and was a joy to be around! I would highly recommend her to others.\r There is one thing that I'd like to bring to your attention. There was another wedding there at noon for ''Liz and James.'' My niece (who was in charge of the guest book) told me that guests were coming up to our wedding and were confused. There are some signatures in our guest book of people we don't know (Yvonne Roberts, Ricky Roberts, Robin Orbanova-or something). We did not receive any gifts or money that do not belong to us though, so I don't think they have to worry. However, there are 3 or 4 people that attended our wedding that we have not received gifts from yet (God, that sounds so monetary and horrible!) I am only bringing this 4p because of the confusion - I hope there was not a mix-up. (People can't handle 2 Liz's in the same place!) I wanted to make everyone aware of a horrible experience we had for our wedding using Electra Cruises. 1 - Wedding Delay. Even though they knew the head count for our wedding, they failed to put enough chairs for the guests. Subsequently, the wedding was delayed by 45 minutes. This delay caused our dancing time during the reception to last about 20 minutes. We barely got in our first dance, father/daughter dance, etc. Of course they did not make up the 45 minutes of lost time to make up for their error. In addition, because of the delay, we ended up taking our wedding photos in the dark. \r 2 - Missing Items. After the wedding, we were upset to discover that our unity candle, wedding programs, gift cards containing cash, and a new Iphone were all missing. The Iphone in particular was stolen by someone who went into the bridal room, most likely by a staffer. Even worse, when we spent 20-30 minutes after the wedding looking for the items, Electra Cruises charged us $600 of overtime for being on the boat after the allotted 10pm time! They took several hundred dollars out of our deposit for ""violating our contract"" because we were looking for the missing items!\r \r 3 - Bar Tab. Per our contract with Electra Cruises, we were supposed to have a ""full bar"" meaning every alcoholic drink was covered. We paid over $3,000 for this service because we wanted our guests to enjoy the evening without having to pay for anything. Imagine our surprise when the groom went to order a Coors Light and Sam Adams and was forced to pay for it! The bartender on duty said those drinks ""were not covered by the contract"". As we learned after the wedding, most of our guests were forced to pay for their alcohol during the course of the evening. \r \r I am more than happy to discuss this with anyone thinking about doing a wedding on a yacht. My bride and I signed a contract with Electra in April 2008. By May, they sent us a letter saying their prices had changed and we'd be billed accordingly. Electra is probably one of the best deals you can get in California for a yacht wedding. Their selection of ships wonderful, the prices reasonable, and the onboard staff friendly. We loved our marrying captain, Torre Niles, and our coordinator, Tamara, was very friendly and helpful. This is a good option if you are prepared for the following shortcomings: (1) You won?t be able to meet your onboard coordinator until the day of, so whatever special request you tell your pre-boarding event planner will most likely NOT be passed onto the day-of coordinator. Your best bet will be to either hire another coordinator that will work with Electra?s (the best option) or type everything up and get there early to tell the coordinator what you want (which didn?t work for us because we wanted things done that will need time to set up.) (2) We had a very difficult time getting a hold of the event planner prior to a month before the actual wedding. This may be a temporary issue since one of the planners had to leave at the time. (3) You cannot try all the menu items because the taste testing is limited to the dishes served at the taste-testing event, which is also the same day as the vendor open house. For anyone wondering about the Coconut-Macadamia Halibut, it?s not very good. It?s like a boxed fish patty that?s been breaded. The sea bass is much better. (4) The top deck can get pretty warm regardless of the weather outside. (It was cold on the day of our wedding.) Ask to open the sliding glass panels. (5) If you?re having a nighttime event, decorate as much as you can because the top deck, which is where all the main events occur, is very plain. Also because it?s dark outside, backgrounds in pictures will turn up black unless you are passing by the Ferris wheel or other lighted areas.\r Like I said, this is an excellent option for an affordable, cruise wedding. However, if you are looking for a fancy, upscale event, this is probably not your venue. Pros: Reasonable prices, great location!
