Editorial review from Citysearch 9/26/2013

ATTENTION: Todo was a foster pup with Coastal Pet Rescue. He ran out a door at his foster home after being spooked. A female SCAD student found him and took him to the vets at Eastside vet clinic where he was scanned. They found the number for CPR and called to let them know they had him. We arranged for pick up and gave a credit card number to pay for any fees. They then allowed the student to pay the fees and TAKE a dog that DOES NOT belong to her. The dog is now considered stolen. What kind of vets office has practices like these?????? Bad practice means no clients. How horrible! more

Unbelieveably kind and empathetic vet 1/8/2012

It was hard to believe that it was the week before Christmas and we were faced with one of the hardest decisions of our lives. Our beloved 17 year-old Aussie had finally reached a point where we knew we had to do something and the whole family was heartbroken. KC had been totally blind for about 2 years and was now almost completely deaf, and slept through most days except to go outside to use the bathroom. But she had done what we had asked of her, she had ""hung on"" until our son got home for Christmas. She was so happy to see him, it was the most animation we'd seen from her in months. You see he had rescued her 17 years earlier from a trash dumpster that someone had put her in as a very young puppy. Finding a vet on the Thursday before Christmas who would even consider it was proving a daunting task. Our regular vet had told me that he thought he could perform surgery that would help her (she had mammary tumors) but he couldn't guarantee that she would survive the surgery. He was not interested in putting her down--he was only interested in $1,500 (minimum) surgery for mammary tumors. The problem was the tumors were not the issue, her overall condition was the issue. I wanted honest answers and honest opinions. This vet told me what I knew in my heart. It was time to let her go. She likely wouldn't not survive the surgery and plus, at 17 years-old why would we put her through this? He said ""You would be doing that for you, not her."" He said ""At this point, she's ready and you need to let her go."" He even cried with us and said ""I don't even know this dog and I am crying. What an indomitable spirit you can see she has."" We were treated with the utmost kindness and care throughout the entire procedure and when we came back for KC's ashes we were treated again with empathy and kindness. This vet has my business from now on! more

Good Care 1/3/2011

The context of my review is 2 visits. The first, to have my dog neutered. The second, a follow up visit; as the stitch had inappropriately shifted. While I had a favorable experience at Eastside Veterinary Hospital, I thought it important to provide information regarding the follow up visit. After having, what I considered, a friendly conversation regarding my questions and the veterinarian's suggested solutions regarding my pets behavioural issues (for approximately 45 minutes), I was charged for the consultation. At no time was I informed that I was being charged for the discussion nor did I go into the clinic for the consultation. Accordingly, this conduct seemed inappropriate. I hope that in the future should this veterinarian begin to charge for client questions/conversations they will provide appropriate notiification. more

Good holistic care 8/31/2009

Both vets here give exceptional care for my pets considering their own circumstances. The vets recommend the least invasive course of action to treat a problem and go from there. Very common sense, reasonable approach to vet care, not over the top w/ tests that may not prove any solutions. Great pack leaders! Pros: Great care for your pet Cons: Not computerized/may lose records more

Wonderful! 7/29/2009

I have yet to go to a Vet that is more personal or compassionate than Eastside Vet. From the moment you walk in the door the Vet techs are happy to see you and your pet. You will never be just a number there, and after a few visits they will probably know you and your pet by name. The doctors listen to your concerns and do whatever they can to help your animal. Also, their prices are very affordable. Pros: Affordable, Friendly, Caring, Personal more

  • Our practice began as Case Veterinary Hospital in 1923 at its present location, which was on the Thunderbolt car line with a stop at Ash Street, the city limit at the time. In 1982, Dr. Marlay purchased the practice and it became known as Eastside Veterinary Hospital. The hospital is one of the oldest continually operated family-owned veterinary practices in the United States. Now, as then, we feel privileged to serve our community. Our focus is on communication with our clients, since most of the time if the answer is not obvious with the pet, its found in the conversation with the owner. The staff here enjoys serving people as much as we do their pets. We are animal lovers ourselves and can always find common ground. Our reputation is our most valued asset and integrity is our most prized possession. Eastside offers excellent service at an affordable price. We have the best clients anywhere and are grateful daily for the chance to help.
