Editorial review from Citysearch 8/12/2013

I'm disappionted to see negative feedbacks on here. I've never had an issue and quite frankly, they have the absolute BEST tasting Chicken Schwarma I've ever had anywhere. I miss La Shish, but Cedar Garden has been the closest I've found to good Mediterranian food. more

Could be hazardous to your health!! 4/12/2010

I found the listing online, and even though almost every review said the waitstaff was rude, I was just ordering a carryout and I have worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years, so I am usually very tolerant of my fellow service industry professionals. I ordered the combination platter for my family of four, and while I found it a bit more expensive than other places I have tried, I am usually satisfied with the portion size....not the case here...I paid a dollar extra to change the salad to a fattoush, which turned out to be six pieces of tomato on top of lettuce ( I have never had lettuce in my fattoush before????)...Also, I had to pay a dollar twenty-five for the picked radishes and pickles that have always come with the combo platter at every other Lebanese restaurant I have ever been to!!! Moving on....While I was pleased that the person on the phone was rather pleasant, as well as reassuring when she promised there would be no nuts in the entire order ( my son has both a peanut and tree nut allergy), when I walked in to the empty restaurant, save the table of four employees, the employees turned to look, then proceeded to resume, and finish, their conversation (which lasted about what seemed to be two minutes). The food was ready at the time I had ordered it to be picked up, so that was nice. Getting home, the food had good flavor, but there were only three pitas to go with the entire combo, and I probably should have asked for extra (at goodness knows what extra cost). While the combo had a little bit of each item that was described on the menu, the container was mostly filled up with rice THAT HAD ALMONDS IN IT!!! We don't eat out much because of my son's allergy (wonder why i don't trust restaurants), and thankfully I thoroughly inspected the food before I let him eat it. I suppose it kind of worked out, because there was barely enough food (and not enough pitas) to go around without him being able to eat with us!! My family and hopefully everyone I know will be steering clear of this place in the future!! Pros: The flavor of the food is pretty good. Cons: The waitstaff and portion size. more

Great Food 3/23/2010

All of my family and friends rave about Cedar Garden's food. It is always delicious. We go there often and have always been pleased. The wait staff is not the friendliest but I don't go there to make friends. The food is great and the prices are reasonable. Pros: All of the food I've tried has been absolutely delicious! Cons: Not the friendliest wait staff but acceptable to me. more

Restaurant dirty, service bad, food disgusting 3/13/2010

I was served disgusting, bad-tasting food in a restaurant with dirty dishes, by a waitstaff that couldn't have cared less. I wasn't offered a beverage, and sat at a table with an empty breadbasket in which the waitress, in passing, dropped a baggie containing a a pita. The food was virtually inedible. Pros: I guess being centrally located is a plus Cons: The headline is a pretty good summary. more

EEK! Hair in my food! So disappointed!!!! 1/25/2010

I have eaten there before and always enjoyed it. I went there after a long day with my son to enjoy their food. I ordered the chicken shwarma plate and after a few bites, I found hair. I sent it back and got a new plate. After a few bites, again, I found hair. I reported it and he LITERALLY yelled at me! YELLED AT ME!!!! He said that it was my hair. It was less than a half inch size piece of hair and I have really long hair. He started telling the other staff and laughing like I made it up. I was so upset I almost cried. I have never been so disrespected in all my life! I will NEVER NEVER NEVER go back there and I wouldn't suggest anyone else go their either. Cons: Hair in your food and being yelled at when you report it. more

I haven't been to Lebanon, but I bet Cedar Garden's as good. 3/11/2009

If Cedar Garden were a man (and my fella didn't mind), I'd marry it! Whenever I come back to the Detroit area (my home), I skip Dearborn and head to this place--directly from the airport. No joke. The food is always fresh and never disappoints. The staff will tell you what's especially good that day or evening. They haven't steered me wrong yet. In the off chance you don't get it from one of Cedar Garden's efficient waitstaff as soon as you sit down, be sure to ask for the fresh bread to be ""piping hot"" to start your meal off right. The hint of sweetness will really get you salivating. The only drawback for me regarding this place is the entire menu is healthy--that means no wine or booze with which to get sloppy drunk during or after my meal with friends... I mean, the place is comfortable and there's no pressure from the staff to hurry up and get out so... Which leads to my second ""con"": Because again of the comfort/unwind factor, I tend to need lots of tea to keep me warm during a leisurely meal...large pots would keep the staff from having to constantly refill. I'm already planning my next trip back... Pros: Best (seriously) lentil soup, kibbe naye, majadra, more... Cons: No alcohol, no pots of tea (only individual cups)... more

best Middle Eastern food in the northern metro detroit area 3/17/2008

There food and service is excellent ! Very authentic ! The surrounding is serene and the food comes at a reasonable time. Make sure not to pass up the garlic dip for the bread, there homemade lentil soup, and there freshly juiced juices! I recommend the carrot and apple. Pros: great food, great price, great service, Cons: the dont live next door to my house! more
