Caffe Adulis

If you are looking for something different on a Friday night, Cafe Adulis is the place. Great atmosphere with velvet curtains and beautiful artwork adorn this cozy restaurant. Eritrean cuisine was new to me so I tried a variety of things, they also have options for vegetarians. In many cases the people make the place, I was at this restaurant, and the service was absolutely terrible. We ordered some drinks that did not come for 30mins, we had to remind the server of the drinks and there was no apology from the server for forgetting the drinks. The restaurant was not busy at all, so it was not as if the server was overwhelmed with many customers. We noticed the server was more concerned about having a conversation with one of the patrons than providing good service. At the end, our party could not wait to get out of the restaurant. \r After travelling a great distance to sample this restaurant, I was extremely disappointed. I have sampled Eritrean cuisine in other cities, and I am an avid fan of the food, but the traditional dishes were not up to the quality of the places I have visited in the past. The injera (like a huge pancake) was extremely tart, the lamb and chicken dish we ordered was very bland and runny, not customary of this cuisine. The food and drinks in this place are both really good. The atmosphere is very comfortable and elegant at the same time. The food is very creative, fresh & tasty. I recently had a delicious Shrimp appetizer and a key lime martini that was really good and not too sweet.(Ask for Maria she makes the best Key lime and Mojito i ever had.I think they use high end rum?. I actually find myself here about once a week, at least for a drink and some appetizers at the bar if not dinner. It's busy, but not loud -- a welcome relief if you actually want to carry on a conversation. Pros: Great Value, Great Patio seating, open late 4 dinner Cons: none, none, none more
