Best

look they work with you to try to help. But If you can't help them to help you then they are wasting time and money. Pros: they know what they are doing Cons: one a** hole...

Worst

I have been in a few times and dealt with the same sales man (I think he might be the owner). Rude is an understatement. A longtime customer told me not to take it personally - ...

Horrible Customer Service! Don't know what others are sayin 9/1/2010

Look, I keep seeing these reviews that they have great customer service and I really can't see what the heck you guys are talking about. The selection is on par to pretty much any other hardware store. There is a queerish guy with a gold hoop earring that gives you more attitude than a 16 year old girl and acts like you're putting him out by asking for help. more

try doing it with out Berg 8/22/2009

Great service most of the time 7/22/2008

I agree with the other reviewers that this place has the one screw you need that you can't find anywhere else, or that you don't want to look for at Osh or Home Depot, where no one will help you. I have been in there countless times with one little handle or screw or cabinet latch that I need and they can solve the problem. Most of the people there are friendly and patient even when you can't explain what you need very well. more

Worth the price 12/15/2007

I have always found the staff at Berg hardware to be friendly and knowledgeable. If you are looking for a specialty hardware item, come on in. If they don't have it, chances are they know who will. They will work with you on custom jobs and give you ideas about how to build it/fix it, etc. if you are stuck. \r \r For all of you who don't like Berg hardware, just think what it would be like not to have a place like that where you can come in and get a single screw, or some weird tap, or even a plumbing fixture from the 1930's. I don't mind the higher price, just so I get what I need, and from people that know what the heck they are talking about. more

If Berg Hardware doesn't have it... it doesn't exist. 3/12/2007

This is the only hardware store worth going to for ten miles in any direction. In fact I've even seen salespeople from other hardware stores in Berg to get parts to fix their stores... no foolin'. I've heard lot's of people complain about the prices; but here's the thing, who else is going to stock a $150 box of 1/4-20 Allen nuts, just so you can go in and buy two any time you want. They even had stainless steel acorn nuts when I needed them. Yes they were five dollars each; but they had'em, they knew where to find them and they were American made. The latter point escapes many people; some of this stuff isn't made in China yet because the quantity demand isn't there--like the Allen nuts. If you ask me it's the big box hardware stores that are the expensive stores; they cost too much in terms of time, quality of life, and realestate. Additionally big box store may look they have a lot of stuff but it is usually a lot of different brands of the same thing, ie, how many different brands of pliers do you need to choose from? Never mind the sales people, they may be friendly, but they don't know a pin-spanner from a cir-clip plier. Pros: Convenient location; ample parking; amazing inventory; knowledgeable salepeople. Cons: Not open Sundays; short hours Saturday. more

Rude.... 5/18/2006

I have been in a few times and dealt with the same sales man (I think he might be the owner). Rude is an understatement. A longtime customer told me not to take it personally - he was like that with everybody, and one day he will warm up with me.... I'm not holding my breath - and I won't be returning to Berg Hardware. Pros: few customers..., empty parking lot Cons: No customer service, Rude, Impatient more

If you believe in Customer Service, avoid BERG 4/6/2006

In the past year, I've spent over 100k in local hardware stores. BERG is the worst. Their staff is the rudest collective group of men in this area. One younger staff member is very couteous, the rest act as if they're doing you a favor to sell something. This morning, I pulled on a locked door to see one of their charming old workers shaking his head at me in disgust. I asked if I did something wrong; he basically picked a fight with me. When I told him "Hey no worries, I'll go somewhere else" he called me a baby. Does this sound to anyone like proper business practice? acceptable ettiquite? This guy (maybe the manager/owner) has been a jerk everytime I (and my employees) have been there. I know everyone in this business locally and will be adament about them boycotting BERG. Cons: Awful customer servic more

Excellent stock and knowledgeable clerks 10/6/2005

Every time I go to Berg I look forward to a fun time finding something I can't find anywhere else in the SG Valley. When they don't have the item, they usually know who would have it. Looking for special or old ! hardware - chances are Berg has it. Rarely ever strike out at Berg's. more

A GREAT Old-fashioned hardware store 8/22/2005

This is the kind of hardware store that you used to be able to find in every city, until the big-box stores and their know-nothing clerks drove many out of business. Berg Hardware has it all -- their inventory of parts is about 5 times that of the big box stores (don't be fooled by the small size of the building!) Clerks are friendly and knowledgeable. If you need odd-sized bolts, nuts, etc., this is THE place to go in the San Gabriel Valley. They have a huge stock of metal bars of all sizes and types, and they will cut to length, so if you need only 3 inches of 1.5 inch aluminum bar stock, they will cut it to that size and that's all you pay for. Prices are a little higher here than at the big box stores, but places like Berg Hardware make it worthwhile because you can be sure they will have the parts in stock that you need, and the clerks are veterans who actually know what they have in stock, where it is on the shelves, etc. You can even bring in a broken plumbing part and more

Need just the right sized nail or screw? 8/8/2005

I like to go in here when I'm working on a project that needs just the right sized screw or nail. You can buy just one if that's all you need. You get exactly what you need and the amount you need. No more wasted packages of the wrong size or too many. I just bring in what I'm working on and they help me get the right size. Screws have so many factors (color, threading, length, thickness, etc) you don't think about till you have the wrong one. more

Unfriendly atmosphere with a poor selection 5/25/2005

Every time I go in here, I say I will never return. The employees make you feel like you need them, and not the other way around. They are unfriendly and make you feel stupid. They also are very expensive. PROS: Good neighborhood location, plenty of parking CONS: Small selction, expensive. more

Better off with OSH 3/16/2005

How can a hardware store have such a poor facade? You would think they could pull out a few buckets of paint from their shelves and spruce up the paint job on this place, which seems to be circa 1967. Also, way overpriced. The staff is sometimes nice and sometimes has an unfriendly demeanor that makes this a difficult place to work with. Plus, the prices here are too high and the selection is poor. more

Good for Older Homes 3/16/2005

Berg is exactly what you would expect a neighborhood hardware store to be - a lot of things you have no idea you would ever need and someone to tell you why you need it. It has been a tremendous resource in restoring and maintaining my craftsman house which has non-standard doors, hardware and plumbing. more
