Good Pet Food Selection 7/8/2010

I've been happy with my experiences at Bark N Purr. My dog has allergies and very sensitive/dry skin, so they recommended switching to Pinnacle food. It has helped SO much and I very highly recommend this brand if you have a pet with skin allergies. Overall, the staff have been more helpful than my vet in finding natural solutions. Pros: Selection, High Quality Pet Foods, Local Cons: Prices more

Its Purrfect 6/9/2008

I love Bark and purr for toys for my dog and cat and especially for the special food I have to feed my dog since we started him on Prednazone. The staff is always extremely helpful and friendly and has always been there for me when I needed something, even if they had to special order it. I can always count on them for great service and happy smiling faces. more

Good Selection, A Bit Pricey 3/29/2008

I went in and they have a wonderful selection of all kinds of pet products, I enjoy walking in there wishing I could get some stuff...I was looking a tshirt for a puppy and its a good size for a tiny chihuahua and the shirt was about $20 something bucks which I think is a bit over the top for a plain black tee for an extra small dog. Pros: Good Selection Cons: Pricey more

Excellent Pet Store 3/27/2008

Bark N' Purr carries high quality products that you won't find at your local Petsmart/Petco. If you truly care about your pet you'll want to stop by Bark N' Purr and feed them what's best for them. Pros: Great Selection Cons: Closes a bit early at 7pm more

I go when I have to 3/9/2008

I agree with others when they refer to the lack of customer acknowledgement. They are not doing us a favor as we could just as easily get the food online. The food they carry is top end. When I run out and don't have time to get it online I have to go there. Thats the only time I get it there, as I get the same face time in the store versus online. more

Terrible customer service! I will NOT shop there again 2/16/2008

I've been to this store about 6 times now because they have great products. I have never once been greeted as I've entered the store and when I check out the clerks act like they're doing me a favor. They never say "hello", "welcome to the store" or "thank you". I have left the store agitated every time and will NOT be shopping there again. There are other places to get premium pet supplies. I think these people are arrogant and feel like they've gotten so many awards over the years that they don't care about the customer anymore. NOT RECOMMENDED. Pros: Great products Cons: Terrible customer service more

Rude Store Owner Lost Our Business 4/29/2007

We always try to shop locally and support Austin-based businesses, but we won't be going back to Bark & Purr after the encounter with the owner today. My girlfriend went to get our cat some lite cat food, as recommended by our veterinarian, because our he had leg surgery and needs to keep his weight down while his leg heals. The owner interrupted my conversation with a staff member and asked, "Why are you getting lite food?" As I began to answer he interrupted and began to explain why lite cat food is a "farce" and I shouldn't get it. I explained that I actually know some about the differences in cat food and was wanting to follow my vet's instructions. Again, the owner cut me off and said, "Well, I do this for a living." The owner then walked away and I asked the staff member who the man was and he informed me that was the owner. I then asked why he stocked a food he thought was a waste of money and a farce. Shaming your customer and making them feel stupid is not the way to gain business. We will not be going back. Pros: local Cons: rude staff more

Grooming = sick dog and rude manager 4/1/2007

We had always loved shopping at Bark 'n Purr, so we decided to take our German Shepherd there to get groomed. A week after his appointment, we learned he had kennel cough. We also learned that is is common when a lot of dogs are together in a space, and now know that there is a vaccine for this that we had not gotten because we never board our dog. We felt it was important to let the manager know it was going around. I called and, in a very calm polite voice I started to tell her that our dog had contracted kennel cough and they might want to do a little extra scrubbing on the kennels. She interrupted me, saying it was not their fault, what did I want them to do about it, we should have had our dog vaccinated in the first place, etc. All I wanted to do was let her know what happened, and she was so rude and defensive, that we will never go back there again. Not for grooming, not even to shop. more

Puppy love 2/14/2007

I love the staff at Bark n Purr! I like to form relationships with the people with whom I do business and these guys easily allow that. I am always greeted with a smile and they help me find exactly what I need. I often ask for suggestions for my dogs. I recently had a problem with one of my dogs who was eating feces. The Bark n Purr guys offered several probably causes and solutions for me. My dogs also go to get groomed and always come out happy and coiffed to perfection. more

Wonderful staff & quality products. 11/17/2006

We LOVE Bark-n-Purr. They carry nutritious and healthy food and treats, brands you can't find elsewhere. I agree with the other reviewer about their limited toy section -- but, they have a good selection of pet beds, their health section includes organic and herbal remedies along with the basics, and their leashes/collars selection is much higher quality than at other pet stores. But by far, the best thing this store has to offer is the staff. When we first adopted our dog, we were brand new to pet ownership. The BnP staff were such an asset to us in getting started. They're very knowledgable about all the products they carry, so they can make informed recommendations you can trust. They have a frequent buyer card for food, and they even let me return items when I lost a receipt. You just can't get service like that at the bigger chain pet stores. The only potentially negative thing is that prices on some items are a little higher than average, but it's worth it for the better service, and to support a local business. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, customer service Cons: None! more

HORRIBLE experience with groomer but wonderful store staff 10/22/2006

My dog walked into the grooming room but after three hours with the groomer, he had to be carried out by one of the store's staff. My dog is 13 years old and is actually quite active for an old dog with arthritis in his back hips. I warn all groomers that he has these problems so they know they might have to give him an extra boost or care. When I picked him up, he was panting heavily and breathing somewhat erratically. The groomer put him on the ground and he couldn't even stand up. It took 2-3 days for him to recover and walk normal again -- he is fine now. I still have no idea what happened though I have heard from more than one source that they wash dogs and leave them wet in crates with cement ground. Besides this (which was my first concern) he got a horrible cut -- he's a Standard Poodle. I agreed to have his legs shaved down but when I got there she was shaving all of the hair off his ears. She said that they were matted (which they were not) but I have been to enough groomers to know that shaving is the lazy way out of grooming (in most cases.) On the positive side, the STORE employs nice people and they have a great selection of food. Pros: Food selection and employees Cons: Groomer more

WARNING: DO NOT TAKE YOUR HERE FOR GROOMING BUT GREAT STORE OTHERWISE 8/6/2006

This is sad since i think the store is phenomenal in every other aspect. I went in to buy my dog pet food and couldn't help but overhear/see the people in the other room that do the grooming. The lady was SCREAMING at this poor little dog and they were very rough/forceful with it. It was a lhasa-apso or something like that. I was appalled. They should be trained to deal with all types of dogs even if this one may have been snippy...i don't know if it was. Since the new grooming team has taken over it has gone downhill fast. Beware unless you want your dog abused. Pros: great place for food, toys, bed Cons: unprofessional groomers that are mean and forceful with dogs & cats more

Best premium food 7/12/2006

They have some great choices for premium food. The staff was really helpful. The toys they have a little expensive... and nothing too cool... but everything else is superb. Pets are allowed, of course. Parking kind of stinks because of construction going on in that area and because of the parking lot design. Pros: awesome food, service, good recommendations Cons: parking more

Best source for super premium foods 5/15/2006

This is the best shop in town for super premium foods. Forget about Science Diet and Eukanuba, try Innova, Felidae/Canidae and other real super premium foods. Your pet will be healthier than ever before. Pros: product selection, knowldegeable staff, locally owned Cons: only one location more

They offer a new shedding treatment for pets 12/28/2005

I found out about Bark N Purr due to a recommendation from a friend. She was very happy with the grooming treatment she got for her dog there, and I was looking for some way to control the shedding on my pet also. They use special tools and do not harm your dog while doing it, and they say it has helped reduce shedding by up to 80 %. The groomers there are very nice, and really enjoy the animals they work with. They have a large selection of treats also. more

Great Toy Selection 11/30/2005

I love this pet store. It's been in business for nearly six decades now and they're experts in the pet industry. I have a cat and love getting new toys for him here. Most pet stores have a meager collection, usually consisting of squishy balls and balls with bells in them. This store has mice that make realistic squeaks (my cat's ears always perk up when he hears it), motorized toys that zig-zag and can be chased, and long, and really adorable stuffed critters to bat around. Great selection of toys and games that differ from your standard toys. more

Animal supplies 11/30/2005

This is such a nice little store. It is a small family owned business and they are so nice. They have almost all supplies you could need for you animals. They carry several brands of really good food for you animal, as well a flea protection supplies. more

nice store 11/27/2005

This store has many different kids of small animals. They have something for almost everyone. The staff is friendly and helpful. If they don't have it, they will try to get it. more

Bark N Purr 11/12/2005

I took my dog here for grooming and I was highly pleased with the service. The staff is great with animials...seem to have a real affection for them. The store is wonderful and has lots of pet supplies, meds, and toys for your well loved animal. I recommend this store and feel it is more personable than the larger corperate pet and dog chain stores. more

Come here for your pet needs! 11/1/2005

This is such a neat place to go to--it's locally-owned and has everything you'll need for you canine or feline friend. The staff is very knowlegable and friendly, and I was able to find products there for my cat that I couldn't find at other pet stores. more
