Horrible 11/12/2011

We had a reservation and still had to wait almost 20 minutes to get a table. When we finaly had a table, we ordered our drinks. I ordered a Malibu Bay Breeze and I did not recieve that. I recieved vodka mixed with grapefruit Juice. One of our friends ordered a mojito and found 3 beer bottle caps in his drink. I was just thankful that the food was good. We also had issues in the Azuca dance bar with our drinks and also to get our key back from wallet parking. They very disrespectful and the owner did not seem to really care. I was really disappointed and we paid a total of $160 for food and drinks. more

A Good Time After Dark 7/19/2010

I really enjoyed this little spot that is away from it all. Although it is downtown, its not in the middle of all the traffic and hustle of the nightlife. Pros: Good mojitos Cons: Close Early more

Great experience! 7/19/2010

We went out this weekend to a place called Carmens De La Calle off of N. St. Mary's. They treated us very rudely so we left and called a friend and they recomended Azuca. We were impressed from the beginning! From valet service to the live salsa band and the atmosphere was awesome! We had a really great time sitting at the bar watching the band and the dancers (I don't dance). The food was well prepared and was delicious! Our party tried several different plates and we all shared with each other. Every plate was incredible! Unfortunately, there was one small problem. We did not get all the sides that the menu said came with the plates and had to request them. We were also charged $1 more for our plate then what the menu price was. But these were just very minor setbacks and the pros far outweigh the cons! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun place to spend your evening. We are going back this weekend! Pros: Atmosphere, Food, live music Cons: a little unorganized more

Restaurant for tourists 5/30/2010

I came from Houston to San Antonio because I thought I was going to find a good latin restaurant to enjoy caribbean food. First of all I realized that the prizes are exhorbitant. The steak/meat prizes average $20+, therefore average income customer may find much better service in another latino restaurant in this city ( You will get a great 16 oz steak at Texas Roadhouse for this price or less and you will feel like home). I asked for an ""Argentinian Chorizo"" appetizer thinking that I was going to taste something different. What I was served was few pieces of regular sausage which you can find locally and any supermarket along with a small portion of salad. The location is not in accordance with the prices of the food. There are long cushioned benche placed along the that gives the impression that had not been cleaned in years. Finally my wife and I realized that the condition of the bench is caused by the years of usage. My recommendation to all the new customers; be aware that you may want to advise the waiter or waitress that you don't want the 20% gratuity included on your bill, because if you don't say nothing it will be included on it; not 15% but 20%!!!! This was my first time to this restaurant and for sure it will be my last. I don't know for how long it has been open but for sure I can forecast that it won't last too much. Pros: Probably for night live lovers Cons: Not suitable for local customers more

Great Happy Hour but plan on staying for dinner! 2/1/2010

Azuca is known for their happy hour...Mojitos, Capirihina's and Appetizers for under $3 dollars is a tasty steal. Plan on staying for dinner so you don't miss out on their delicious seafood dishes. Their specialty Feijoda.... it is out of this world. Pros: Delicious Cuisine Cons: Adequate parking more

Not Consistent, Was A Favorite Not Anymore. 10/31/2008

I have tried Azuca several times, when they first open it was fantastic. The flavors were bold, fresh, the food served hot, the place decorated colorful and the service was great. But lately it has been terrible, lunch and dinner. The food coming out of the kitchen is not fresh or consistent. The cerviche was old and over marinaded, the portions are getting smaller and the wait time for the food is slow. The corn bread is delicious, the tortilla soup is spicy and the pineapple ice cream dessert is to die for. Sometimes the flavors are excellent and other times the food is just bland. As many times I have been there I am highly disappointed with the food and service, they are not consistent, so I won't be coming back for at those prices I can get better food elsewere. Azuca can be very busy on the weekends, live entertainment is good and noisy, plus parking can be a problem. Pros: Ambience, Live Entertainment Cons: Food Not Consistent, Service is Slow and Parking more

Delicious flavors but not so nice ambiance 9/5/2008

The food is amazing and the mojitos are not too shabby.... The was a weird odor in the bar both times I have gone. It's a musty pine sol smell. It reminds me of my grandpas house. The second time I went we sat inside. Besides having to fight off what seemed like a millions flies who seemed as eager as me to eat my scrumptious meal, we sat by the window which was lined with little cups of powder. Come to find out through my waiter as we left, it was, well it rhymes with pat and roison!!!!! (This website won't let me write those two words). I'm not sure how the San Antonio health inspector has let those offenses slip through the hole, but if you can look through the less than exemplary health standards of the joint Pros: Great food Cons: Vermin issues more

Best Latin Flavor 6/9/2008

I have been going to Azuca since it has opened and it still meets my expectations and more. The salmon jibaro is done perfectley, the shrimp diablo and my favorite the Tuna Negro are delicious always falvorful and keep your mouth watering wanting more. My family has ordered the parrillada mixta and the meet has been tender and well seasoned. The only thing I have to say they need to improve on are their Patacones or also known as tostones. They seem as they are frozen and friend they have no flavor and are not crispy as they should and their mojo has been lacking in garlic flavor. However there decor is amazing with vibrant colors and the ambience is great with amazing service and great taste in decor. i highly reccomend this place Pros: food, ambience, service Cons: parking more

Wonderful happy hour, mojitos and service 5/23/2008

We were told about Azuca's by a local so we headed over in the 100+ heat and were delighted to discover such a cool, blue/ice cafe. We had a wonderful young woman who took care of us. The mojitos were awesome, and the shrimp ceviche was wonderfu - orange, jicama with shrimp! Great service, cool atmosphere, and great food - definitely made our trip to San Antonio memorable! Pros: Happy hour, mojitos, service Cons: Small happy hour edibles menu more

delicious food and great atmosphere 12/4/2007

We enjoyed the ambiance and had a delicious meal. The goat cheese salad was excellent. We split one and the portion was large. We enjoyed the sea bass and paella. Everything was well prepared and the presentation was pleasing. It was a special last night of vacation meal! We recommend it to anyone visiting San Antonio as a alternative to all the Mexican food. Pros: delicious food, great atmosphere, large portions more

Awesome Happy Hour, Great for Dinner 3/25/2007

Azuca is one of my favorite places. While their entrees are great, the appetizers and drinks are the best. Definitely stop by for happy hour - the mojitos are great and their house wine is awesome for the happy hour price. I went with a friend and had several appetizers and drinks during happy hour and spent less than 25 dollars. Everything is delicious. Pros: Ambience, Service, Food, Drinks, Entertainment Cons: Sometimes noisy if there are a lot of people more

Great atmosphere! 4/10/2006

Azuca is in a great eclectic section of San Antonio. The restaurant has a wonderful vibe and the Azuca bar next door looked like it would have been a lot fun. My boyfriend and I ordered Gaucho soup. It was one of the tastiest soups I've ever had! My mojito, which I heard they are known for, was close to perfect. I wasn't ecstatic about the appetizer platter we ordered, but I will definately go back and order something else. Our waiter was fantastic our entire night! We left halfway through our meal and I had hardly touched my mojito because I didn't feel very well and he took the mojito off of our ticket without us having to ask. I'll definately come back here next time I'm in San Antonio and try to go to the bar as well. more
