I was wandering by the streets of Marblehead, as a French tourist making a side trip from a week in Boston, photographing these beautiful colorful houses. I walked by the gallery by chance. The window attracted my eyes, all kind of different styles, paintings and objects and yet the shop indicated ""frames"". I came in and right away I felt there were treasures of art there that were worth digging into. My eyes were caught by these delicate water paintings by an artist that the shop owner identified as Ray Prosser. Never of him before, RP is an artist from Maine, he said. The last sighting of the ""Portland"" in 1898, beautiful lights, a sailboat and the steamer caught by the storm offshore. I then read the story and found it even more fascinating. Small sailboat but agile or big steamer, both faced the same difficulties with different arms. The size does not make the strength, the steamer and passengers were never ever rescued. The sailboat may saved itself, the story does not say. \r
The gallery owner knows every single piece he holds, I asked him for paintings from the same artist and came back with this beautiful framed painting of the Portland and fell for it. I bought it as a gift for a friend. The gallery also has beautiful handmade ceramics from a Maine artist.\r
Definitely recommend Arnould gallery! it is not on the way to any tourist map but worth to go.
