best salsa and chips in San Gabriel valley! 1/17/2012

We first went to Armando's because we got tired of waiting to get into Norm's across the street. That was at least 30 years ago. We go once a week even though we live in Duarte because nobody makes their rice and beans like Armando's. Another reason is for the salsa and chips. The corn tortillas are fried and the salsa is thick, not watery like most mexican restaurants. The fish tacos are good but the white sauce is sweet so I ask for ranch dressing instead. Another thing is they have ground beef hard tacos which I love but they tend to be too greasy. Check it out if you want real mexican food. Well worth a visit. more

Best fish tacos in LA 5/10/2007

Armando's fish tacos remind me of the baja style fish tacos I used to get while living in San Diego. There's something different in this batter - it's crispy, flaky and deliciously savory! Freshest, tastiest fish tacos I've had since my San Diego days. Only thing missing is the tangy white sauce. Will be back again... and again.... and again... Pros: Delicious more

Good, Not Great 10/28/2003

I tried Armando's based on the positive reviews. I went 3 times to give it a fair shake, and: * Armando's is Good, but Not Great. The simple things are the best here: Their Chips & Salsa (free) are fantastic. The Jamaica is the best I've ever had (and that's saying a lot). However, their meats, or rather the marinade and flavoring of the meats, left a lot to be desired. Most of the time they were all very bland, as if to allow different sauces to be poured on quickly to ""flavor"" it to a certain style. The Carnitas (pork) I had was too greasy and dripping with fat. The Lengua was tender, but not flavorful. But the SIZE of the burritos was awesome! For $5.95, it was worth every penny! You come to Armando's for stuffing yourself on authentic Mexican food that's ""solid"" but just not ""great."" Pros: Solid Mexican food, Cheap Cons: Not flavorful enough, Too greasy at times more

SuperMex is SuperGood 10/4/2002

I've been going to SuperMex for over 10 years and they have consistently made a great burrito. It's affordable and most folks can't finish it in one sitting. Granted, it's not El Tepeyac which prides itself on being large, but it is good. The combo dinners are good particularly the carnitas plate. The chips are fried tortillas that you break up yourself and the salsa is delicious. I'm getting hungry, maybe I'll go there tonight. Also, being part hispanic, I know good mexican food and No, I don't work at or own SuperMex. Pros: good portions, good value, good chips more

Just Like Coming Home to Moms 5/19/2002

I love this place. TV in the corner, a hot meal and they have Corona's. This has been one of my local favorite spots for good Mexican food since high school. more
