Nice place, awful service, food 2/9/2010

This place is beautiful and great to listen to your favorite band/artist. The food, however, leaves much to be desired. While the prices are not exorbitant, the portion is TINY and it doesn't taste that great. The service could be better, the food takes a long time to be served and the waiters could try to be nicer! But then again why should they if gratuity is automatically charged. DO NOT USE THEIR VALET PARKING SERVICE. I accidentally forgot my phone in my car and when I got my car back after the event the phone was NOT there. It was in the middle compartment though so I didn't think it should be a big problem but those guys can't be trusted! You are better off finding parking on your own. Pros: Great place for music! Cons: Food not so great, service horrible. more

Good Music, Declining Service. 1/28/2010

This is a beautiful venue, unique in San Diego. It has great ambiance and the acoustics are amazing. The artists are first class, the only problem is that I've been there several times and the service seems to only be getting worse. It is more than considerably slow; not so friendly, and the appetizer menu is expensive, mediocre, and tiny. The servers left us waiting to order for the longest time, then to bring our orders once again we waited for a very very long time. They acknowledged it but didnt really apologize or offered a drink on the house or something to show good service. The waitress was somewhat rude. I would still recommend only because of the music, but service has to improve or it will lose costumers. Im going to give it another chance and hopefully it will be better. Pros: Amazing music and acoustics, beautiful place Cons: Bad service, slow, tiny, mediocre, expensive ,appetizer menu more

Unique to San Diego 1/3/2010

Anthology just brought on a new Chef this year and he doesn't disapoint! Wonderful atmosphere, live music and unique dishes. Overall it was a well rounded evening. Pros: Wonderful Entertainment more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE 8/6/2009

My boyfriend's credit card was stolen and used by one of the staff members. Not only did they never apologize, we tried them again and they never said THANKS, can we make it up to you - NOTHING! Thank god we paid cash! They don't have steak knives and the service is SLOW. They get bent out of shape if you want to ask questions and the staff has responsibility with NO authority to make anything right!. Pros: good seating/Great musical entertainment Cons: Poor/slow service for the price! more

Very Nice 7/25/2009

Had a function hosted in the private room upstairs. The space was nice, the AV equipment was well placed, and easy to manipulate for ambient sound/live music vs the business presentations. Appetizers were passed and were good. In particular the caviar dish. Drinks were good. Unfortunately, the one server our party was given was at times slow, and the wait between rounds was a bit too long. Overall, the place was very enjoyable. I would go back again for some more live music and to eat off the menu. Pros: Good Private Room, Live Music Cons: Slow Service more

A guaranteed fun night! 5/6/2009

Finally, a fun and classy place in San Diego! I have been to Anthology a few times and each time it proves to be a truly unforgettable experience. The music is always great and the sound system is the best I have ever heard. The decor is very chic and elegant and the food is consistently delicious! I can't wait to go back! Pros: Great ambiance, great drinks, extraordinary live music, food Cons: drinks are a bit pricey more

go for the entertainment 4/1/2009

Great venue. I would return again; however, I would opt to sit anywhere but the community table unless you enjoy having someone sit on your lap. They seem to really pack the community table. Could be ok if you arrive early as it's first come, best seating with community table. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Venue worth returning for. Service not the best but decent. Seemed understaffed. Pros: Great venue, ambience Cons: Don't sit at community table more

** Great Place! ** 3/29/2009

Finally went after a few friends recommended. What an amazing place! The food was unbelievable and the service unmatched. Our waitress recommended a terrific wine to accompany my salmon (which was delicious as well). I have never been to a place where I am able to enjoy a great meal while listening to a live band. We saw the house band and I was wowed! I cannot say enough good things about this place. I will definitely be back and soon! Pros: amazing food, wine and live music Cons: a bit pricey (worth it!) more

Great Jazz Club 12/8/2008

Been there twice. Loved it twice. Very sophisticated. Good food. Terrific music. Great atmosphere. Loved the tables on the first floor. Pros: great music, great venue, great food Cons: not cheap more

smallest food ever and over priced 11/2/2008

if your hungry this isnt the place to go because they have their dinners the size of a peanut at first i tought they were appetizers, plus for that little dinner it will cost you more than $100 buck more

Unique, Authentic Dining and Music Experience, All in One Stop 7/27/2008

Going out on the town sometimes means more time going and less time doing. Rather than rushing and parking for dinner, then rushing and parking for a show, I sat back and enjoyed an entire evening of fine food and amazing music. Granted, Wynton Marsalis made the evening special, but the setting made the entire experience memorable. I like the fact that the multiple courses flowed over the entire evening, rather than getting one huge plate at once. I had a drink at the bar and ordered a ceaser before the show. Then a great Filet during the first set and still had room for dessert during the second set. The bill was big, but not more than dinner and a show at seperate venues. I will definately be back. Pros: One stop for good food, great music, and easy parking Cons: Great nights out and big budgets go together more

WORTH A TRY 11/16/2007

I have been to anthology two times now.One time for jazz and the second for latin music. The groups were oay,but nothing spectacular.I suspect its not in thier budget for top rate talent. The food is very average. The kobe sliders were bland and the buns were dry and tasteless. The bread basket they serve was rather good,as is the cheese plate.Portions are very small,as is the case with one of the owners, celebrity chef bradley ogden, give a little charge a lot.My bill for two people was $150,which I thought was rather pricey for average food and entertainment. If you have to check it out go to the bar ,spend the twenty dollar minimum for food per person, pay for your ticket for the music, which varies per artist,or go on a night when they don't charge for the music.Overall the price is very beautiful inside, but they need to work on their food and entertainment. Pros: Beautiful interior Cons: Average food and music, overpriced. more

fabulous music club 11/8/2007

THE place for music! It is like having a private concert with the performer! I have heard performers like Raul Malo, the charming James Hunter from England, Classic jazz greats like Ramsey Lewis and Terrence Blanchard- the range of styles and quality of talent are top notch. The food is above average but I usually go for the music. Great place to take a date or celebrate a anniversary. Pros: music, sound quality, intimate and classy Cons: food more

Don't go Hungry!! 8/7/2007

The place itself is great, sort of like jazz bar meets supper club with an industrial feel. There is a cover charge ($15) disguised by a concert ticket to get in. Food is very average and portions are small, prices are above average for what you get and the service is sub-par, although they don't seem to think so since they stab you with an 18% gratuity included on the bill no matter the size of your party. My recommendation: go for drinks and to listen to cool jazz with great sound, especially if you know who the band is. Pros: Good music, Great sound, Cool layout. Cons: Service, Prices, Food more
