Best

Alons is great. I'd get The blueberry muffin for breakfast the creme brûlée for desert and the tomato basil soup for lunch.

Worst

The cakes including the Midnight Cake was nothing special. And the BBQ Salmon sandwich was terrible. I was really disappointed with Alon's.

Best bakery Goods! 5/15/2006

I think Alon's is one of, if not the best bakery in Atlanta. I think i have eaten every pastry and danish they bake and I have never been disappointed. The sandwiches are great, fully loaded! The breads are wonderful. They are really busy all the time, so you have to be patient, but i never wait to be served, they have a large staff. Keep up the great work! Pros: bakery, sandwiches, breads Cons: parking, busy more

dissapointed 3/3/2006

yea, i agree with everyone on here. Some of the stuffs here are so rude and food is not that great. even though cookies we got were pretty good, they were too pricy for what they were. and the sandwitch is not good at all! dont get it! Pros: cookies Cons: service, food more

cookies = yum. 3/2/2006

Bakery is not vegan friendly, which is unfortunate, because I think the bakery is the best thing about this place. Some items are undeniably overpriced, but overall the quality is excellent... just be prepared to pay for it. Pros: cookies, quality, chocolate selection Cons: bakery not vegan, prices, parking more

Customer is wrong 11/7/2005

i went back to alons to try the cookies that i heard were so good. The guy working behind the counter could not even wait on the customer because of the The Manager or whoever she was that was in charge, was too busy barking out orders. I skipped the bakery and went for a sandwich. It was good but for almost $9 it better be. Alons is way overrated and over priced. The staff needs to help the customers not chase them away. Cons: Bad Parking, Rude staff, overpriced more

They're Just So Rude 10/21/2005

For the prices they charge here, a little bit of customer service should be in order. Instead, they are routinely rude, surly, and basically unpleasant. While some of the desserts are really good, their soup is awful, and the last 2 sandwiches I've had were the worst. I could chalk this up to bad menu choices on my part. But when you couple this with such terrible service, you can count me out. more

You can't ever put it down 5/21/2005

I think everybody should come and try at least once in a life time!!! The desserts they make only can be described as superb. You get much more than you pay for. You'd better come early if you want to be the king of the day. Pros: good taste, stay fresh more

What's the crying about 5/18/2005

I've never had a terrible experience here. Have always received polite and courteous service. I even ordered my wedding cake and it was the best, delicious and moist! And I've gone to a truckload of weddings where the cake of the hour taste like cold cardboard. The neighborhood is wonderful although crowds gather on the weekends. Pros: Great food and treats, Good service, Worth the trip Cons: Little parking, Busy on weekends more

best bakery in Atlanta 12/17/2004

I hunted down Alon's from Los Angeles after reading great reviews on Zagat. I was in Atlanta for the first time to spend Thanksgiving with my boyfriend's family. I dragged him and his mother to find Alon's and immediately we all fell in love with the place. I was disappointed they had no Heath Bar Brownies, but the Grueyre and the ginger scones are worth the trip alone! My boyfriend's mother lived in Atlanta 15 years without ever knowing about Alon's, but she's all into it now. We got a selection of desserts to share, the whole family loved it. Great place to grab lunch if you're in the area. It's not really a restaurant, it's a bakery/deli/wine shop/dessert place. There are only a couple places to sit, but grab lunch and go! And don't miss the scones. Pros: atmosphere, great baked goods, quality food more

Not recommended 6/1/2004

I was told that Alons had the best cakes in Atlanta so when my parents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary I decided to get their cake made at Alons. Thoughout the entire process I was treated rudey by the owners, the cake was not what I had ordered, and it was not prepared by the time it was supposed to be finished and was not delivered, even though I had paid for delivery. I had to drive 20 miles to pick the cake up myself. All in all it was a nightmare. The owners were never apologetic. After this experience I will not using Alons anymore and will not recommend this bakery to others. Cons: , unprofessional, unapologetic more

Lovely neighborhood bakery! 5/24/2004

I'm not sure what is awry with other peoples' recent experience with Alon's, but I have to say that I'm continually impressed every time I go! My husband and I often drop by on the way home from work to pick up a rosemary focaccia loaf or one of their tempting desserts. Their confections are a little high, but the craftsmanship really makes up for it. Pros: fresh, excellent flavors, nice atmosphere more

I give it a D+ 3/2/2004

There are a few items on the menu worth their price but most are not. The Challah bread is too dry and overpriced. The desserts are just ok, nothing to rave about and definately not worth the extremely high prices and hassle. Sandwiches don't taste fresh, and there's no place to sit down in Alon's to eat them. But on the bright side their coffee is pretty decent and they have a pretty good wine selection reasonably priced; the only thing at Alon's that's reasonably priced. Pros: wine selection/price, decent coffee, interesting soups Cons: , poor service, dry bread more

Rude 2/10/2004

Everytime I have ever walked into this bakery I have been treated extremely rudely. Its too bad that the service is so poor in a place that makes some great food. When they get their act together and start treating their customers with respect then I might start patronizing Alon's again. Pros: fresh bread, great desserts, great soups Cons: , RUDE service, RUDE service more

Not Worth the Drive 1/18/2004

We drove from Dunwoody to Alon's to try out it's raved about deserts and sandwiches in the hopes of finding another exceptional bakery. The deserts looked delectable in their trays but after sampling our purchase, we were not impressed. The banana bread was the best out of the items we got, including Cappuccino Tort and the Opera Cake. Nothing beats La Madeleine for cafe offerings in our books as yet. more

With quality comes a bit of chaos 11/4/2002

Alon's is a wonderful neighborhood bakery. I love their pastries & desserts (raspberry cheese danish, lemon bars, croissants). Their breads are good (but I prefer the Bread Garden in the Amsterdam Outlets). I have gotten good recommendations on cheese (but you can get them elsewhere for cheaper). I really like their sandwiches. My favs are the chicken pesto and the peppered turkey. I've also had excellent mushroom & lentil soup. On weekend mornings & around holidays the crowds can be overwhelming & supplies run out. Pros: pastries & desserts Cons: some prices are high more

Not Impressed! 10/29/2002

I have heard so many great things about Alons Bakery ever since I moved to Atlanta that I had to check the place out. But I honestly do not see what all the fuss is about. The cakes are pretty basic, mostly mousse cakes, and they are tiny! I ordered a lemon raspberry mousse cake with writing. The writing looked like someone scribbled a message at the last minute; it didn't look very professional at all. And considering the reputation and price of Alons I was expecting something much nicer. The cake itself tasted old as though it had been sitting in a cooler for days. There are better bakeries in Atlanta that give you better quality and value. more

Not a good value 10/8/2002

Alons is not good value for what you get. The desserts, though very lovely and artistic are just not worth the inflated prices. The Midnight Cake is something I could make myself, an 8 inch cake for $26 seems a bit expensive. And apple pies are $15. They are good, but they are not $15 good. The service is lacking, and the bakery is very cramped and overstocked with retail items. You feel like if you turn around you might break something. I've found the crowds, cramptness, and prices a bit too much to handle. Also a big negative for Alons is that there is no place to sit down. Pros: cheese, wines, desserts Cons: expensive, cramped, crowded more

Nothing special! 8/29/2002

The cakes including the Midnight Cake was nothing special. And the BBQ Salmon sandwich was terrible. I was really disappointed with Alon's. more

Best birthday cakes 8/21/2002

If you are looking for a VERY SPECIAL birthday cake that will make your guests rub their tummies in delight, check out Alon's wonderful cakes. more

Bread & Desserts!!!! 8/20/2002

This is a fabulous bakery that has mastered both bread and desserts. All of the breads and desserts are outstanding, but the fruit tart is the best on the planet! more

tuscany in atlanta 8/2/2002

Alon's has been my favorite local bakery for years. Their sandwiches are divine (try the tuscany!)--perfect bread, wonderful combinations of vegetables, meats and cheeses. And no other Atlanta bakery has desserts that compare--from cookies to tortes, Alon's makes the best I've tasted. Pros: inexpensive, easy parking Cons: crowded more
