Best

Alons is great. I'd get The blueberry muffin for breakfast the creme brûlée for desert and the tomato basil soup for lunch.

Worst

The cakes including the Midnight Cake was nothing special. And the BBQ Salmon sandwich was terrible. I was really disappointed with Alon's.

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/12/2013

Alon's in Dunwoody has an incredible wine bar. No matter what your preferences are they always have something for you. In addition to the great wine selection, they also offer amazing craft beers. Check out the wine and beer selection to take home too. The prices are really competitive.\r \r Wine tastings are every month with paired artisan cheeses. They are always $20 and scheduled on the closest Thursday to the 15th of each month. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/18/2012

Do not cater from Alon's unless you want undercooked and cold food to arrive late and you don't really need the condiments and accessories they state come with the order. Apologies are nice but my event was more stressful than it should have been and I spent way too much money for all the mistakes. Now I would take a gift certificate to eat lunch there but never again will I cater. NEVER more

Dunwoody Store - Consistently Horrible Service 4/11/2011

The service at the prepared food counter is Horrible. I have complained to the owners twice now. This past Sunday wanted to try something before purchasing. This is customary. But, the guy behind the counter said ""no"". I asked him for his name - he said ""raymond"". But, come to find out that wasn't his name. I spoke with the manager on duty about it and all he said was ""it is too spicy for you"". That's the response you get from the MANAGER!!! Yikes!!! Was expecting an appology and let me help you out, but never got it. called the owners again and was told they didn't know a Raymond. I plan to find this guy's name and expose his nastiness to the world. Apparently, they don't get it - and it does affect the profits of their business. Poor service gets noted and people spend their hard earned $$$ somewhere else. Must be they have more business than they need. The poor service I have seen is to the manager level. How do you quantify lost revenue? Well, I have friends that live near both locations and they don't go there anymore. I can see why. The really need to work on their service problems. more

Hmmm.. 1/30/2011

I like going in to check-out the international items that they have on the shelves and their desserts are very good...but, a few months ago I bought a bag of pita bread and when I got it home, the pitas were moldy. So, I decided that I wouldn't ever go back. Then a couple of weekends ago, I drove by and thought, let me try going in again. This time it was the service that was terrible. The people behind the counter had no idea what they were doing. Customers were complaining that their orders were wrong and I ordered 2 cups of soup with rolls and after 15 minutes, I asked the girl behind the counter about the order and her response was not very nice. How long does it take to serve 2 cups of soup from the pots?? Considering the prices they charge for lunch items, they have ridiculous and rude service. Never again. more

A Fantastic Euro-style bakery 1/28/2010

As close as Atlanta has to a European-style bakery, Alon's offers up fresh breads, cheeses, meats, sandwiches, and prepared foods to its Morningside neighbors. Inside, different areas house different products. There is a cheese case, a wine area, and cases for salads and meats to eat in or take out. Grab a butcher paper wrapped mozzarella, sun dried tomato, and arugula sandwich on focaccia, or a cup of the ever changing soup du jour menu (grab the tomato-basil if available). Outside are wicker seats and tiny tables to chow down atop the white paper bags the food is stuffed in. Pros: Amazing selection of delicious ready-to-eats Cons: Occasional awkward seating for groups of 3 or more more

Great Place 11/25/2009

No comments. Pros: Worth every penny more

5 stars 11/2/2009

I love this place! They have the best cookies and sandwiches in Atlanta. It can be a little pricey but as a whole the place is amzing. Pros: Food and specifically cookies and sandwiches Cons: pricey more

sad but true 12/14/2008

At first I thought the desserts were excellent although quite a bit pricey. My second experience, however was not very well... There is a lemon-merengue pie on the website but when I called to order it, the man argued with me that there wasn't and that they Couldn't even make one. The previous review of the attitude there being rude and ""all that"" was correct. I guess the awards have gone to their heads... Lost another customer. more

SO OVERRATED 9/12/2008

Ok, maybe you guys never left the USA , exc for Mexico, so you don't know European pastries. I had to laugh after going there when reading, best french bakery.. Hello, wake up, not French at all\r \r The take out is so overpriced. Look at the smoked salmon. The chopped liver is bought from elsewhere and trucked in. Check out their parking lot in the am. The hummus is awful. overpriced cheese, even Whole Foods is cheaper and that is so sad. Atlanta does not have a true European market, exc for those that think Alon's is European.. also, so rude and think they rule. Not so. Give me a nice french pastry chef anyday, even a french chef with a little attitude, but not one that has horrid food and is not french. The parking is awful and it is obvious that they gained parking variances others would not get, based on biased politics. Please take me back to Za bars.... more

Best Bakery in Atlanta!! 1/25/2007

I have been looking for an authentic french bakery in Atlanta and this is it! My boyfriend surprised me with the chocolate truffle cake from Alon's on my birthday this month and I've been hooked since then. We've always passed by and wondered what Alon's is all about, I only regret that we didn't check it out sooner! It is designed like a long line, begin on the left of the shoppe with the viennoiseries and pick up some chocolate croissants, the best double chocolate cookies, and different breads, next is the pastries and coffee, then the salad and sandwiches, and finally the prepared to-go foods. On the opposite side are the cheeses, wines, and refrigerated cases of various drinks and to-go items with the cashiers at the right end of the bakery. It's packed at all hours of the day so get there early, the chocolate croissants and sandwich baguettes run out fast. They really do have the best sandwiches in Atlanta; my favorite is the tunisian tuna - not your average tuna salad at all. Instead of mayo, it's marinated with lemon juice and has capers, potatoes, hard boiled eggs, and preserved lemon all on a baguette with harissa. The coffee is good and strong and the cheese and wine selection is small but wide. Definitely a haven for the gourmet fanatic/foodie like myself. Pros: pastries, bread, sandwiches, gourmet items Cons: very busy but the parking turnover is fast more

Hands-Down! One of ATL's Best Bakerie's! 11/3/2006

I have been a fan and loyal customer of Alon's since day one. The pasteries are outstanding, especially the lemon bars. Don't forget the brownies, also. I usually start eating in my auto before I reach home. The roasted lamb sandwiche's are legendary. Beware, they are very busy, and just be patient. It's really worth it. Check-out the salads also. Pros: Pasteries! Roasted Lamb Sandwiches! Breads! Cons: Parking! Slow Service At Peak Times! more

BEWARE: Horrible Service & Rude Owner! 11/2/2006

I am a student pastry chef and have been to Alon's several times, its always very busy and overpriced for average tasting desserts. I was there a few weeks ago to write a report on the bakery. I had called Alon in advance to let him know that i was coming. He kept me waiting over and hour, passed by me several times and never once aknowledged that I was there and then went in the back and never came back out! He was too busy yelling at his employees to even notice anything/anyone else. He doesn't even have the common courtesy to say ""this is a busy time, can you come back later"". Thats all he had to say! \r He needs to add one thing to his menu and eat a big helping of it....HUMBLE PIE! Pros: You can eat elsewhere Cons: VERY RUDE! OVERPRICED!!!! more

Avoid, no great pastry or sandwiches 10/23/2006

This place is a absolute joke! The cakes are all the same and they have nooooo creativity! Jaconde is pretty much the idea for decorating and they are terrible at customer service. The owners are rude and racing around like crazy animals, poor staffing. The desserts are like a grocery store, almost worse, and the sandwiches are bland beyond bland! Absolutely nothing special, the presentation of everything is cheap and looks terrible.....don't go. Pros: not a thing Cons: everything more

Good Food but lots of confusion 9/23/2006

The food at alons is very good. I am quite fond of their albacore tuna sandwich with capers on baguette. The baked goods are always top notch, especially the cookies. However, be prepared for a confusing setup. There are no clear lines.. people just crowd at various parts of the long counter.. it's not quite clear if you are in the line for soup, sandwhiches, desserts, coffee, or to pay. The staff makes it quite clear that they can only get you what they have at their ""station"", so if you are getting more than one item.. you can have a long wait. The staff can be somewhat apathetic, I don't think they have actually been rude to me, but then they also don't go out of their way to be friendly Another treat besides the food at Alons is one of the owners who bears a striking resemblance to Alanis Morrissette. You really have to see her to believe it. Pros: food, variety, alanis morrissette Cons: pricey, no seating, confusing lines more

Great lunch spot 8/23/2006

Unlike many of the reviewers, I have never had a problem with Alon's. In fact, I highly recommend this lunch spot! I'm a huge fan of the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken and the goat cheese sandwich. It tends to get extremely crowded, so I'd recommend going for a really early or really late lunch. The cookies are to die for-- don't skip dessert!! more
